I believe trust is an essential key to forming a therapeutic relationship , which builds up over time.
Hello, my name is Dani .Sometimes grief and loss takes us by surprise, like an ambush, making us feel vulnerable, alone and in pain. Are you suffering from grief or loss? Are you struggling to find meaning after a diagnosis, or a change of circumstances due to job loss, divorce or bereavement? Do you feel 'stuck' in your grief perhaps, and wondering how you can get unstuck? Is grief preventing you from living your life? These are difficult moments that require orientation and support over tricky terrain. Would you like someone to accompany you on this journey of recovery who has walked the walk of grief and loss too.

*If you would like to work with me, please contact me initially by email only.* If something in your life keeps on repeating itself and you can't find a way to break the cycle, I can help. People come to me for support in figuring themselves out, and to look at whatever aspects of their lives are not functioning well. Many of my clients are Gender, Sex and Relationship Diverse (GSRD): LGBTQ+, kinky, non-monogamous and/or sex workers. Your identity may have no bearing on what you would like to bring to therapy - you may simply need to feel assured that you won't have to spend hours explaining things or debating your existence.

There are times in our life that we feel stuck, lost or misunderstood. Counselling could be a good avenue to explore these feelings in a non-judgmental environment. These feelings for some could be due to depression, anxiety, loss, low self-esteem, trauma, and for others work-related, difficulty in managing anger or relationship problems. Feeling stuck or trapped in any of these situations could be caused by behavioral patterns. A therapist can help us understand these patterns and with understanding make changes that lead a more joyful and peaceful life.

Life has a tendency to throw major challenges at us without warning. You may find yourself dealing with a specific life changing circumstance such as a new diagnosis, bereavement, traumatic experiences, relationship difficulties or redundancy to name a few. Sometimes being able to pin point feelings can be a little difficult. You may be experiencing feelings of being stuck and are anxious, depressed or just unsure of how you currently feel about your life or a certain situation.

We believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship to facilitate growth and change, and we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for the individual.
We embed a Trauma-Informed approach to our clinical practice using a contemporary psychoanalytic lens. We seek to provide individuals with a safe and supportive environment in which they can explore and process their past and present experiences. This approach recognises the impact that trauma and resilience can have on an individual's psychic world and seeks to address these experiences in a gentle and compassionate manner. In a trauma-informed clinical practice using a contemporary psychoanalytic lens, the therapist works collaboratively with the individual to explore their past experiences and current feelings.

I specialize in working with depression, anxiety, relationship problems and break-down, major life changes, life crisis, eating disorders, trauma, PTSD, OCD, Borderline Personality Disorder, bereavement, managing stress relating to chronic illness and medical crisis.
Life can become overwhelming, confusing, and difficult to manage. Experiences such as loss, bereavement and major life changes like a medical crisis can make us lose our sense of self and purpose. Depression, anxiety and personality disorders can distort our sense of self, rob us off our full personal potential and quality of life leaving us feeling depleted. Therapy is a place to regain and restore your sense of self and purpose and to help you turn these experiences to an opportunity to grow.

I have twenty years of clinical experience in working with issues such as depression, relationship difficulties, body image issues, issues around motherhood and pregnancy loss or infertility, adoption, cultural complexity and identity as well as blocks in one's creativity, life transitions, bereavement and sexuality.
I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist working in an eclectic and relational way. This means that I can help you identify repeated patterns which are in the way of living your life to the full and are often linked with unresolved issues from the past. I enter into a dialogue with my clients and I am an active part in the therapy relationship , while at the same time facilitating an open and non judgmental space for exploring the difficulties that have brought you to therapy. Research has shown that building a good therapy relationship is the key factor for positive therapy outcome. I work in an open ended way.

I am trained and experienced in working with adult individuals, couples and groups.
Clients reach out to me because they are struggling within themselves, their work or their relationships. They might be feeling depressed, anxious, dreadful, stressed, overwhelmed, lonely, angry, empty, numb, purposeless, meaningless, traumatised, disconnected; yet not realise it. They might need to feel better, and live fulfilled lives. They may want to discover themselves and what would make them happy. At times people enter therapy in a crisis or for a multitude of other reasons and stay for various lengths of time. The time of entry is usually significant. Therapy is no longer a stigma; self development is now a norm.

MdC Music Therapy aims to provide a dedicated and devoted space where you can be supported by a music therapist in connecting with your musical, creative, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, cultural and physical self and soul through music and creativity and building a trusting therapeutic relationship .
I believe in each person’s innate musicality (Trevarthen and Malloch 2000) and recognise each person’s musical and creative core. I believe we are all resilient and resourceful but that many forces in the world, including racism, sexism, colonialism, capitalism, and more, consistently try to disconnect us from our inner power and the power of our collective communities. I believe strongly in the capacity of music in therapy to restore this connection, empowering us to access our authentic musicality and creativity and our buried resilience. I am here to support your healing in the way that feels best for you.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
