Clients often come to therapy struggling with overwhelming emotions—whether related to loved ones or life events. Relying on coping strategies or defenses can create a sense of rigidity, leaving you feeling stuck and disconnected from what matters most. Emotions are our GPS and also the glue that bonds us with one another, thus their importance to navigate through life.

Seeking therapy can be a scary decision. I do believe however that the issues prompting you to come to me have the potential to enable you to move into a new level of self-understanding. A key principle of my particular therapy - Psychosynthesis, suggests that the symptoms of our problems can indicate a deeper meaning or potential trying to emerge in our lives. Our work together will try to discover what that might be. To achieve this I offer a focused approach for a specific issue in short-term work or we can go into more depth for work in the longer term.

Hello, my name is Matthew, I am a qualified integrative therapist working online via Zoom from my therapy space in East London. I have the conviction that it is possible to make sense of our lives and doing so makes good sense. Clients I meet often have a sense of despair around aspects of their lives and find themselves being ‘fed up of being fed up’. This despair however can serve as a useful catalyst in the quest for healing and understanding. Therapy is an opportunity to take stock of our lives and work out what we want them to be, to face ourselves head on.

I work with adults from all walks of life who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, work-stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, grief, abuse, trauma, loneliness, anger, or life transitions.
I began my professional journey as a Public Health doctor, where I developed a deep appreciation for the complex ways in which physical, emotional and social factors shape our wellbeing. Alongside this work, my own life experiences led me to seek counselling during a particularly challenging period.
I realised that counselling is not simply a place to “fix” problems. It is a powerful space to pause, reflect and make sense of what has been painful or confusing.
I found myself drawn to training as a counsellor to support healing and help reframe long-held patterns, and restore a sense of meaning and purpose for my clients.

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
