I have trained in existential psychotherapy, and I apply this in my work with clients. The starting point is the experience of the client, to provide the opportunity for them to examine their understanding of life, and the problems and dilemmas they face; to reassess their goals and desires. It provides an opportunity to consider how their choices have been constrained, perhaps by the views and expectations of others, but also by constraints rooted in our society. Understanding can lead to questioning, and growth, possibly in new directions.

Life can sometimes feel like too much to handle. You might feel that your old patterns or ways of coping no longer seem to work. When this happens, it can be useful to speak with someone in a space where you feel supported and heard. I offer a safe and compassionate environment where we can explore what’s going on for you in more depth. Using a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach, we might consider the connection between your past experiences and your responses in the 'here and now'. Using this insight as well as helpful CBT tools or techniques can help you to gain a sense of empowerment and make meaningful lasting changes.

I believe that we tend to access therapy when it’s no longer possible for us to travel alone on our journey, hidden from ourselves and others, stuck in familiar and/or unfamiliar patterns that can no longer contain us, and when the way in which we are relating (or not relating) to ourselves, others and the world around us, is no longer making us feel fully alive. Something tells us it's time to look inwards. Looking inwards can feel daunting but it is necessary in order to instigate meaningful and lasting changes ( both external and internal ).

I work online with adults navigating for example anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, OCD, procrastination, feeling stuck, or carrying something you've never quite been able to put into words.
My background is unusual for a therapist. Before training as a counsellor, I spent about 2 decades as a researcher studying how the brain and mind develop. That knowledge gives our sessions more depth without ever making them feel like a seminar. I am a BACP qualified Integrative Counsellor & Coach, drawing on a range of evidence-based approaches.

If pregnancy or early motherhood is feeling more overwhelming or difficult than you expected, you’re not alone. I support women and families experiencing anxiety, low mood, birth trauma, identity changes, and relationship difficulties during this time. You may feel stuck, feeling unlike yourself, constantly on edge, struggling to adjust, or unsure how to cope with the changes you’re facing. Together we can begin to understand what’s happening and find a way forward.

It can be hard to live in our own heads. Worries, fears, sadness and feelings of inadequacy can make it feel like we are swimming against the tide. Our psychological difficulties may have been with us for a long time or may have started more recently. Whatever our mental health concerns, psychological therapy is an opportunity to change our relationship with our minds: a place to learn the skills to cope better with what life may throw at us, and a chance to find the inner resources that we all have, to allow us to move towards living a more fulfilling life.
