I have years of experience supporting people through these challenges, working across NHS, charity, and private practice settings with anxiety, identity issues, eating disorders, OCD (including the themes people feel most ashamed to discuss), trauma, and the unique complexities of cross-cultural living.
Hi, I'm Melisa, a third-culture kid, BACP Registered Psychotherapist working online with individuals and expats across the world.
I work with people navigating all kinds of challenges; you might be living between cultures, feeling disconnected from both "home" and where you live now. Perhaps you're dealing with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or struggles with food and body image. Maybe you're in transition; adjusting to a new country, a new phase of life, or feeling stuck and uncertain about who you are.

Clients have CBT for a variety or reasons: it could be to help a specific mental health problem such as anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, an eating disorder or addiction.
CBT is based on the concept that thoughts, feelings and actions are interconnected and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. By finding alternative, more positive ways of thinking and behaving, and by learning specific skills and coping strategies, emotional distress is reduced and resilience for future problems is developed.

I specialise in anxiety-related difficulties, including health anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, and intrusive thoughts.
Many people I work with feel overwhelmed, stuck in their own head, or worn down by anxiety that keeps returning. They may struggle with constant worry, intrusive thoughts, panic, or a sense of dread they can’t fully explain. Often, they want relief from these patterns, to feel calmer and more confident, and to stop their lives shrinking around fear or avoidance. Above all, they want to feel understood rather than told to “just cope” or push through.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
