Therapy with George Teare: I am a qualified counsellor and work with individuals facing anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, confidence and self-esteem,
relationship
issues/communication, eating-related issues, existential issues, male stereotyping.
The challenges that we can sometimes face in our lives can leave us wondering ‘What do I do’, ‘Why do I feel this way’, ‘What is my purpose’, ‘What now’? Having a regular space and time where you can express thoughts, bring questions, look into parts of your life you want to explore, all with someone that is impartial and without pressure to be a certain way. That is what coming to therapy is. A time that is yours, where you can say what you think and feel and where there will be no judgment, but where you can challenge yourself and think through whatever it is you need to explore.

I offer a safe, curious, transparent and confidential communication so that we could create a secure environment for a healthy
relationship
to emerge and flourish within and outside of the therapy room.
It's challenging to have a human experience because of the social conditioning. Also, it's fascinating to be a human because the more you know about yourself, the better choices you can make & the more you can appreciate life. As per conditioning, we think that ther're “good” and “bad” feeling but once we educate ourselves on the emotional level, we realise that somatic sensations, emotions & feelings are important messengers acting as an internal compass. If you decide to work with me, I promise to show or remind you how to use the internal impulses to your benefit & for a much wholesome life.

I am approachable therapist with an open and engaging manner who hopes that my work leads to my clients developing a better
relationship
with themselves and there external world.
I have the ability to really sit and think with adolescents and young people (up to the age of 25 years) and their families and consider their emotional experiences. They may be worried about transitions, leaving home for university or have experienced bereavement, or parental divorce. They may have social anxiety due to the pandemic. Rest assured that no worry is too small to think about. Good emotional health starts with a safe place to talk and explore what is going on inside. No judgement, just someone to really think with you about your circumstances, either face to face or via virtual appointments.

I see individuals who feel stuck for a whole variety of reasons. Maybe you are stuck in a past trauma; maybe you are struggling to move forward in your life; or maybe you are stuck in unhealthy behavioural patterns. Whatever brings you to therapy, my specialty is a deep exploration of all the factors that are holding you back. To do this, I develop long-term supportive relationships with my clients and work in an open-ended way, rather than just “fixing” the immediate problem. I use my expertise in psychotherapeutic theory, alongside a caring approach, to help people address their challenges at a level they can’t reach on their own.

You may have an issue you would like to explore that’s clear in your mind, or you may feel lost and confused about what’s happening and aren’t sure where to begin. Either way, I offer a professional and non-judgemental space for whatever it is you would like to explore. Some may look for short-term crisis interventions, others for a long-term exploration of what has led to the current difficulties. Together, we can work towards understanding the underlying issues which contribute to current symptoms taking into account the social, cultural, sexual and psychological aspects of each individual's way of being in the world.

I specialise in
relationship
issues, anxiety, work related stress, attachment issues, self esteem, low confidence issues.
We all have aims and ambitions for ourselves but life events can often leave us in places and situations that are unhelpful to us in finding our true selves and realising our full potential. I know, I've been there myself... We know that we are our own agents of change but occasionally we may need a helping hand. Metaphorically speaking, we need to adjust our sail so we can catch the wind that will take us to those unexplored waters. Do you feel like you are stuck or just unable to make what may feel like the simplest of decisions? The causes for this may not be so simple or obvious and this is where counselling can help.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
