I can help with Depression, Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Health, Social Anxiety, OCD, Anger, and PTSD
I am a qualified integrative Counsellor and a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT). Our initial session will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other. You will talk about your concerns, experience, expectation and your goal for therapy. I will explain how we will collaboratively work to meet your goal for therapy. I aim to work together to support and offer you a safe, confidential, understanding and non-judgemental space where you will feel comfortable exploring your concerns in your own space. I use CBT to explore the origin of unhealthy thoughts to help you to develop a new way of thinking.

Whatever your difficulties; relationship problems, depression, anxiety, low self-confidence or low self esteem, loss and bereavement, identity confusion, feelings of powerlessness, and anger.
There are times in everyone's life when things can feel overwhelming. At others, we can find ourselves repeating unhelpful or destructive patterns in our behaviour or relationships. At these difficult, and sometimes very distressing times, therapy can, quite literally, be a life-saver. For others, therapy can be an exciting and challenging space for personal development, growth and exploration. I have worked in the field of mental health for over 20 years. I work in both the NHS and as a consultant in Private Practice. I am also a senior tutor at the Minster Centre a pre-eminent training organisation for Psychotherapists.

I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, member of The Guild of Psychotherapists and fully accredited by UKCP. I abide by the Ethical Codes of Practice of The Guild and of UKCP. I offer a safe, dependable address. A collaboration based on trust without judgment and an understanding of what is really going on. Our capacity for growth and our quality of life are curtailed when, for whatever reason, we are haunted by the past or feel unequal to the present and future. We stop being present to ourselves or others, or lose our footing in the world. I work at your pace. I listen and remember and I facilitate the conditions for change.

Maybe you find it hard to manage your anxiety / anger / self-esteem / relationships and want to talk to someone, by yourself - or with your partner for couples therapy.
I offer a non judgemental space where I inquire about any outcomes you'd like to work towards. I aim for you to feel safe so that I can help you get to the core of what might be troubling you. For example, if emotional outbursts are a struggle, as well as self-regulation tools, we could explore and process through your earlier life experiences.

These are effective in helping people overcome difficulties such as low mood, anxiety, anger, stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, coping with the loss a loved one, the impact of trauma or adjusting to new life circumstances.
Hi, I’m Ilan! I’m a Clinical Psychologist and Director of The Oak Tree Practice. I want to tell you a bit more about myself, as I realise selecting a psychologist can be a tough task! I feel very privileged to be able to say I love what I do and always have, ever since I started volunteering for ChildLine in 2007. Following this, I’ve had experience working with a wide variety of clients including children, young people, adults, older adults, military personnel, individuals with learning disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders and neurological conditions. I have also furthered my studies through the completion of undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees. All this aside, one of the most important parts of my work is building relationships with those sitting opposite me. I have always believed that you can have all the training and knowledge in the world, but if the client doesn’t return, none of this can be put into action. Therefore, my first aim is always to provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental space where we can work on the clients’ difficulties together.

Perhaps you are not coping with relationship issues, or are finding your life is badly effected by anger issues, perfectionism or low self-esteem.
CBT is based on the concept that thoughts, feelings and actions are interconnected and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. By finding alternative, more positive ways of thinking and behaving, and by learning specific skills and coping strategies, emotional distress is reduced and resilience for future problems is developed.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
