I am a central London-based BACP accredited Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I am also a trained coach so weave these two skills into my practice. I specialise in relationships – the most critical being the relationship we have with ourselves, but also our partner, siblings, parents, our children, friends and work colleagues. I also specialise in helping people in highly de manding jobs. I used to work in corporate consultancy and so know first-hand the stresses of such an unforgiving career. Thus, I am more likely to ‘get’ the struggles of what it is like in your role..

I understand first and foremost they you need to be heard and acknowledged in an empathic, supportive and non-judgmental manner.
I find that most clients are struggling because they lack coping strategies to manage distress, but also often because they are out of touch with what is important to them, their values, their strengths, their preferred life directions, and there are barriers such as anxiety, fear and/or emotional discomfort which lead to avoidance and other unhelpful behaviours. In turn, these factors thwart their goals and increase distress. Clients want reduced distress and increased pleasure and engagement with a life in which they can feel confident and empowered.

Sometimes things in life can start to seem overwhelming; the useful strategies of the past may not be as helpful as they used to; we can find ourselves lost and unsure. This can often lead to added, despair, anxiety, and self-criticism. It can often seem hard to see a way out or to ask for help. You may need someone to listen without judgement and provide insights into understanding patterns in your life. You may also desire strategies to change your actions and the way that you think about things. The way to a fulfilling and valued life is available without a life-long commitment to therapy.

I am an accredited Clinical Psychologist working in private practice and the NHS. I support clients seeking help with a range of difficulties. I believe that therapy is often about helping people to re-integrate parts of themselves that have become alienated, overwhelming or maligned. A state of ‘wellbeing’ is not an absence of pain or difficulty, but a state in which all of our experience can be held and understood. This is both an internal but also a deeply social process, as hu mans make meaning in relationship with others and their community.

Therapy is not just about working through complex issues. Sometimes we can be so rushed off our feet with family, business and work priorities that we lose our footing. I can offer you the space to reconnect or explore your dilemmas.

The therapy hour is a time for someone to simply be who they are, an experience that is surprisingly difficult to have in a world filled with harsh de mands, expectations, and at times tragedies. Often the people I work with have found themselves stuck in difficult patterns of feeling, thought and behavior that they find to be out of their control, preventing this experience of simply being themselves. We use words like anxiety, depression, and disorder to describe these patterns. As a therapist my aim is to help introduce a greater sense of freedom and control over one’s own life within a space where moral judgments have no place.

I think talking therapies are a fundamentally hu man intervention and a process that can contribute to our wellbeing and health.
Hi I'm Daniel (He/Him). I'm a counsellor who provides support for people that are struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety and grief. I work with people seeking support with difficult life decisions and challenges in their relationships. Often people attend because they are feeling 'stuck'; finding themselves arriving at the same place, despite trying really hard to change. Perhaps they are drinking, shopping or eating to cope or escape. The sex and relationships they're having has stopped feeling safe or fulfilling. They're doing things to 'feel better' while avoiding people, places or decisions due to fear or shame.

Male Counsellors
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
