If you are in pain and willing to work hard, then I might be the person you need. I'm experienced at helping people with a wide range of issues and have a proven track-record of collaborative working to reduce suffering and enhance awareness. Whatever the nature of your pain the core of this work is self-expression and self-exploration to find a freer, healthier way to be in the world. This involves a balance of self-acceptance and change. I will be deeply present along side you in this exploration.

I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor in the Chalk Farm area. I provide a gentle, explorative space for those grappling with an awareness that something is wrong; you may be struggling under the weight of long-term difficulties, or feel unable to face a concrete ending or change. Or, you may find yourself increasingly aware of sadness, confusion, or anxiety that you feel, but cannot properly explain. Therapy is a place for our inner experience (often long-unacknowledged, and often painful) to be gradually known - and allowed expression.

Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis is for someone who wants to know more about themselves and to tackle difficulties which might be impacting their life. Even though this might not be an easy process, it can be rewarding and deepen your understanding of yourself. Sessions are 50 minutes and I will invite you to share what you are thinking, my task is to listen and respond when I think I’ve understood an issue and to explore this with you as we get to know each other better. This is a unique process which centres on your growth and knowledge of yourself.

Life can be a whole lot harder and more overwhelming than many like to admit, and reaching out for support is no easy task. So well done on getting this far- you don't have to struggle on your own anymore. The therapy I offer is an opportunity to share your truth and be seen, in the compassionate, non-judgemental space I hold for you each week. I will endeavour to be alongside you with whatever it is you need to share, whatever the emotional weather. Together we will begin to question old narratives that no longer serve you and look at how you operate in the world, in relationship and how you find meaning.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or unsure where to turn, especially if life has thrown more at you than feels manageable. Many of the people I work with have spent years putting on a brave face, coping alone, or feeling misunderstood. You might be struggling with relationships, self-esteem, work stress, or the emotional impact of long-term health issues or past trauma. Whatever you’re facing, therapy can help you make sense of things, reconnect with yourself, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Individuals: I help clients make significant changes. You will work through issues and events that are keeping them stuck and discover more about yourself. Mostly we will engage in weekly talk therapy; but you might draw, write, or do exercises that explore different parts of you, your family, or specific life events. For couples, it could be broken trust, poor communication, or chronic arguing that brings you here. I create a setting where you can truly hear each other, not just to the words but what is underneath. I offer insights so the two of you can reach across the divide and move forward as a couple, or separately.

Hi, I’m Fiona. I’m a warm, down-to-earth, integrative counsellor, offering a safe space for adults and teenagers to talk openly, feel understood, and work through difficult thoughts or emotions at a pace that feels comfortable. I know that reaching out for therapy can feel daunting, and many of my clients come to me feeling overwhelmed, anxious, unheard, or simply unsure where to start. You don’t have to have everything figured out — we can work it out together.

Welcome. My name is Helen and I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist and supervisor. In addition to working privately, I worked within the NHS for 8 years with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, struggling with a broad range of difficulties: anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, abuse, psychosis, bereavement, personality disorders, and self-harm. Due to this experience, I am skilled in adapting my approach to suit the needs of each individual that I meet. I also have a particular interest in working with people who either have, or suspect they may have, neurodivergent diagnoses such as ADHD, autism and dyslexia.

I have the ability to really sit and be present with adolescents and young people (up to the age of 25 years) and their families and consider their emotional experiences. They may be worried about life transitions, such as the next steps after leaving university or moving schools, or parental divorce. They may have social anxiety and are struggling to attend school or they have had a traumatic experience but unable to talk about it. Good emotional health starts with a safe place to talk, and make meaning out of difficult experiences.

Whether you're experiencing anxiety or depression, struggling with a loss, a life transition, relationship or work difficulties, feeling confused about your sense of self or suffering low self-esteem, or if past trauma is impacting your today and holding you back, therapy can help.

Quite simply, in therapy I aim to offer a calm and confidential space to gently explore any challenges you might currently be facing, or any difficult patterns that you might have noticed throughout your life. My training is in integrative counselling and psychotherapy which allows me to draw on a range of approaches and build a therapy best suited for you. The right therapist for you will likely be the one you feel best able to build a relationship with, the one you feel most comfortable working with.

I'm a psychodynamic & integrative therapist, working in person in London N19. I'll help you understand the origin of your issues and how early experience, fear, or expectations continue to limit you and fuel your anxiety or depression. You might find yourself caught in old emotional patterns, repeating dynamics in relationships, feeling unseen, or unable to express what you really need. Outwardly you seem competent, yet inside there’s self-doubt, a restless yearning, or a sense of not being loveable. You long for closeness but find it difficult, or notice that your confidence depends too much on how others see you.

How can I find a therapist in Kentish Town, London?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
