I have experience working with a range of mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, personality disorder, eating disorder, trauma, PTSD and ASD.
Systemic Family Therapy is a branch of Psychotherapy that promotes change and emotional growth through the shared exploration of troubling experiences; it helps find possible solutions to difficult situations. In life individuals, couples, and families can face many stresses, worries, and changes that can be hard to manage. When difficulties do not resolve naturally or when it feels like close relationships are suffering, Systemic Psychotherapy can help. Systemic Psychotherapy can help to address a range of difficulties and it can be applied to work with both individuals as well as groups of people.

It is not uncommon to reach a point in life where you feel you need to reach out for help and talk about what is going on for you in a safe space without the fear of being judged, not being taken seriously and with someone who is trained to help you. It doesn't matter how problematic your life is or what form, or size (small, medium or big) the problems or challenges in your life take, if they are causing you to suffer and be unhappy then I can help you explore them, move forwards and grow at a pace that works for you.

I am an integrative counsellor, and I am registered with the BACP. I provide an empathic, supportive space where you can feel safe to open up and feel seen and heard for who you are. I understand the pressures people can put upon themselves, which are unhelpful and can lead to damaging coping strategies. I will work with you to identify healthier ways of managing anxiety, low self-esteem and further underlying issues. I feel passionate in the potential of therapy to support you through difficult times in your life. Integrative counselling with John I have an integrative approach, meaning that I draw on several ways of working.

Seeking therapy can bring up many complex feelings. This may be because the process of finding a therapist can feel confusing and overwhelming, but also due to the personal circumstances that have led you to consider therapy. As an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist, I offer a safe, trusting and consistent space that allows you to explore your experiences and how they currently affect you and your circumstances. I’ll encourage and support you to bring your full self, so we can make sense of any complex feelings and emotions.

As a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment where I can help you gain insight into the less conscious aspects of your thinking, behaviour and feelings. I can offer brief focused counselling where we can address a current situation, as well as longer term psychotherapy where we can work together to disentangle deeper rooted difficulties which may have built up over time as a result of your earliest experiences.

I view therapy as a journey of healing, growth and discovery. Alongside my private practice, I work as a Clinical Psychologist and researcher in the NHS and academia, where I study the influence of trauma in childhood on adult mental health. I have training in different therapy models, and offer integrative therapy to adults, adolescents and children/parents of younger children. I am influenced by psychodynamic models of thinking, but also draw from systemic family therapy and CBT (in particular “third wave”, which connects how we think to how we feel and our relationship to our inner experiences).

The aim of therapy is to enable you to enhance your life and to live it more fully. Together we will recognise and explore patterns in yourself and others, what your triggers are and where those patterns may have originated.

Hi, I'm looking forward to hearing from you! I want to hear your concerns and support you to work towards the things that are most important in your life. I feel that therapy should happen in a friendly, nurturing space in which you feel safe and comfortable to bring anything you want to talk about and work on. I usually suggest exercises and other resources to complete in between sessions in order to keep the work progressing.

People can come to therapy for all sorts of reasons: they might be struggling at work or feeling dissatisfied in a relationship or coming to terms with a traumatic childhood. They might need a different approach depending on their goals - so a more structured, goal based intervention might be suitable for someone who wants to be more effective in the workplace. The person affected by a traumatic past might want to develop a stronger abiity to self-soothe - this could be through guided imagery, relaxation, breathing or just through experiencing the therapeutic relationship as safe and accepting.

Welcome. In these uncertain times we may experience heightened anxiety and fear. Old issues may surface. There's more pressure on relationships. I've worked with clients on different video platforms for years both locally and internationally. As a therapist, I seek to be a companion to you when you face a challenge, hardship, or creative block. I feel honoured to have the opportunity to accompany you when you explore these places and search for meaning, wellbeing and new strength

Psychosis Counsellors

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
