I am an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist (UKCP) providing a safe and confidential space for the exploration of feelings and thoughts. I respect every human being is a unique individual and support each of my clients to tackle issues they bring to the space. Through engaging with therapy with me, I have seen clients achieve a better understanding of themselves, feel more fulfilled and more able to tackle life's challenges. Alongside traditional talking therapy, I encourage the use of other modes of creative and artistic expression. This can provide further and useful insight, resonance and self-understanding.

To say a bit about myself, I’m trained at Masters (MSc) level in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have worked at Waterloo Community Counselling for four years, an NHS multidisciplinary team working with survivors of child sexual abuse and a men’s residential unit which delivers personalised support for men with complex mental health needs. My style of working is psychodynamic. In its simplest form, this involves thinking about how your past impacts your current lived experience. A process that involves us thinking together about relationships in the past and present, whilst exploring unconscious thought processes.

Our therapists work online across the UK, we also work face to face with children and young people in Farnham (Surrey) & Herne Hill (London), and with adults in Manchester. Hello, we are the Integrative Centre for OCD Therapy. The founders BACP accredited therapists Jonny Say and Stuart Ralph founded the centre in 2023 to address the need for more affordable and effective therapy options in the UK. Having both suffered from OCD for long periods of time, they created the clinic to help others sooner. Our therapists cover a range of ages from 6 years old up.

Counselling can help you to explore and work through emotional difficulties you may be experiencing that could be affecting your thoughts and behaviours. It is a space for you to share things that you may be finding difficult to talk to your friends and family about. These difficulties may be from your past that are now causing problems in your present or from a more recent trauma you have experienced in your life such as a relationship break-up, loss of someone close to you or difficulties with getting to sleep or sleep not feeling like sleep anymore, but feeling more like an escape.

Our wellbeing is influenced by so many things – our identities, families, friendships, relationships, gender, sexuality, race, worldview, faith, finances, work, studies, past experiences, traumas, mental health, systems of oppression, physical health and much more. In our therapy sessions I offer a space for you to explore these things and make meaning of your experiences. Together we can consider: Which things are causing you to feel unhappy or anxious? Which things are important to your identity? Which of your experiences are painful or caused trauma? How do you relate to yourself & others? What would you like life to look like?

During our lives we may have experience difficulties from early childhood that continue to impact into our adulthood, having someone to listen your problems with an understanding on life experiences and the expertise will benefit greatly to take you safely through a journey to confront and overcome these challenges towards a positive future. The most important support to give to someone is allowing them to feel safe, secure and a non -judgemental space to explore their problems through listening.

I work intergratively and collaboratively, that is to say I draw on different psychological therapies, including CBT, Narrative and Attachment ideas and techniques, depending on the challenges and stories brought into the therapy room by the client(s). I work within an overarching Systemic framework which pays special attention to supporting individuals, couples and families to find the strengths of their relationships so as to make disturbing symptoms less problematic. It is not just about problems however, Systemic therapy is  built on a bedrock of hope, focusing on resilience and resourcefulness.

Since completing my doctorate I have completed additional trainings in autism and working psychoanalytically with couples, parents and young people.
I am a HCPC registered clinical psychologist, with over 10 years of experience in the NHS. I have a particular speciality in working with students and young adults but also work across the life-span. Most of the people I see come because they are feeling unsatisfied with their life, are struggling to meet their expectations of themselves, or are finding that anxiety or depression is getting in the way of work or relationships. Some come because they just want to understand themselves better. My aim is to help you understand what is stuck and, in doing so, help you to feel more free to live life as you would choose.

There are many reasons why you might be seeking counselling. You might be suffering from anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, feeling isolated, excluded, lonely, overwhelmed, confused or numb. You might be overcome by feelings of loss or bereavement, have social anxiety or are dealing with any number of issues at work, socially or with family. Maybe you have suffered abuse or narcissistic trauma in the past. At times it can be very difficult to see through the fog of thoughts and feelings. I also see clients with the particular challenges associated with neurodivergence which include those with dyslexia, autism and ADHD.

Autism Counsellors

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
