My initial interest in Existential therapy was informed by my personal and professional experiences. Throughout the years I have explored diverse ways of supporting my clients, looking to improve their emotional and spiritual balance. Existential therapy encapsulates all my core beliefs about the therapeutic process and the powerful therapeutic connection between psychology and philosophy. It is anchored in the lived experiences (not their theoretical representation) and their relational context. It relates to human existence and predicaments, our choices and responsibilities, meaning and purpose, freedom and limitations.

Navigating life is a challenging task at the best of times and there are times when life may feel like anything BUT the best. Hi, my name is Yaela, and I work with clients on finding their inner strength and wisdom in order to navigate through life and its challenges. Aloneness brings suffering and shame but in finding the language to make sense of your experience and sharing what you are going through with a professional, your struggles can be transformed and can create new depths in your life. As a therapist I am trained to listen deeply and ask questions that may encourage you to think differently about parts of yourself.

This is what I ultimately strive to create for my patients, in the human encounter of the therapy room (be it online or in person).
I am influenced by a range of modalities, but mainly existential philosophy and psychoanalysis. Litterature & psychiatry are important sources of inspirations in my therapy space. Personal agency, courage, and responsibility always have a fundamental role to play.

Through talking and expressing, patients embark on a process - a move into new territory. Patterns that may seem unchangeable and fixed can become more fluid in therapy, allowing one to loosen up and potential create space for new understandings and ways of being to emerge. This is not often a quick or an easy journey. I often see patients for weekly sessions and sometimes over long periods. There are often unconscious (and conscious) motivations for remaining where we are and it can take time for this to become clear. I have a couch for patients to invite dreams and memories as a way of accessing other parts of the self.

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable and outwardly functioning, yet privately feel anxious, emotionally weighed down, or stuck in relationship patterns that don’t shift through insight alone.
Since 2009, I've been committed to supporting clients in their healing journey by offering talking therapy, marriage counselling and conducting over 4000 successful EMDR sessions.
Specialised training with Esther Perel enriches my marriage counselling approach, exploring issues like recurring arguments, struggles with intimacy and connection, emotional shutdowns.

I specialise in anxiety, (including OCD), perinatal mental health, and trauma leading to attachment/relationship struggles. You might feel you’ve reached a stagnant point in life, feel anxious in your relationships, or maybe you’re going through huge change, like a break up or having a baby. Many people reach out to me to start therapy facing these problems. My aim is that you leave therapy feeling in control, happier, and understood

I'm Andreas Ioannou, a London based psychotherapist offering in-person and online therapy to individuals and couples.
Clients usually come to me to discuss themes that they cannot openly share with friends or people they know – about their relationships, anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, sexual identity or, as one of my clients likes to put it, just to talk about life’s everydayness.

You moved to London thinking the hard part was behind you. But you're further from home than you expected — not just geographically. Maybe it's the loneliness no one warned you about, or the relationship strain you didn't see coming, or the anxiety that seems louder here than it ever was back home.
As a fellow American living and working in London, I understand the particular ache of building a life abroad — and the complexity of doing inner work from the middle of it.
I offer online therapy for American expats in the UK and Europe, and for those navigating anxiety, trauma, codependency, and life transitions — wherever they are.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.
When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.
How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
