Seeking help or therapy is not always an easy decision. Most of the times this decision implies undertaking a process of reflection and the awareness that something feels off - or is simply nor alright - and that pain or emotional discomfort are involved. Psychotherapy can be the answer as it represents a tool to better deal with the important moment in which we come to terms with who we are and we allow ourselves to change. It can help you nurturing your resources and overcoming the barriers that are blocking you from reaching what you would like.

I work with clients who struggle with unhealed trauma, including relational trauma from childhood or adult experiences. Many experience persistent sadness, irritability, emotional numbness, flashbacks, or anxiety. Often, clients keep busy as a way to numb their feelings and avoid processing their trauma, leading to burnout and increased anxiety. I help clients recognize these patterns and support them in untangling their experiences. I assist clients in reaching goals of enhancing self-worth, developing emotional regulation skills, and improving relationships, so they feel their trauma doesn’t define who they are anymore.

It happens—sometimes life feels burdensome and overwhelming or just dull. We may feel stuck, anxious, or even that everything is fine but still lacking in meaning. We might face crises—whether it's an identity crisis, a mid-life crisis, or a crisis following a loss. Essentially, living with ourselves becomes difficult. We might end up developing coping strategies. While these strategies (such as addictions, workaholism, or compulsions) may initially offer relief, they often start to harm us over time. Sometimes it is just that 'life happens' and that feels hard . These are the times we turn to psychotherapy,

Therapy can foster a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you by exploring the root causes of some of your difficulties which might be linked to events in the past. Relationship difficulties can be the cause of much distress and unhappiness. Past experiences can have their imprint in the present and can trigger old and repetitive patterns of behaviour which can leave one feeling stuck and in pain. Pursuing therapy as a couple can offer the opportunity to explore hurt and angry feelings in a safe and supportive setting.

Sex is a natural, normal and enjoyable part of our lives but sometimes it can become something that feels out of control, damaging and destructive. Some people find themselves addicted to porn, watching it for hours every day, and as a result their work and their relationships suffer. Others become addicted to having sex with strangers or with escorts. They may find themselves spending huge amounts of money, putting themselves and their partners at risk of sexually transmitted diseases and damaging their relationships. When sex feels like it has become out of control, then it is time to seek help.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
