Divorce Counselling in Farringdon
I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and UKCP Registered Psychotherapist, with over 20 years experience of working with a wide range of issues. I am based in Farringdon, Central London (EC1).
There are many reasons for wanting to begin counselling or psychotherapy. A recent, or current, crisis is often the prompt. Or, you may feel the time has come to take a closer look at those problems, or patterns of thinking and behaviour, that seem all too familiar to you. Many people find their struggles to be too broad or confusing to place in any particular box, or experience a difficult-to-locate sense of dissatisfaction with their lives.

Are you anxious, low, or unsettled without fully understanding why? Struggling to concentrate, questioning your thoughts, feelings or actions, or preoccupied with what others might think? Anxiety and depression can be understandable responses to people-pleasing patterns or emotionally confusing relationships, where self-confidence has been gradually worn down. Even choosing a therapist can feel overwhelming when trust has been shaken. You want clarity, emotional stability, to identify your needs, build firm boundaries, and assert them in a way that others respect. Sessions are available both in person and online.

My clients often describe feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted by trying to keep everything together. They may notice recurring patterns of overthinking, self-criticism, or burnout and want to break free from them. They’re looking for evidence-based therapy that’s practical and supportive — a space where they can make sense of what’s happening and learn new ways of coping. Their goal is to feel more confident, present, and in control of their emotions and choices.

Most people come to therapy when something isn’t working anymore. You may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or worn down from coping on your own. You’ve tried to make changes, but the same patterns keep repeating. You know something needs to shift, even if you’re not sure how. I aim to offer a space where you feel genuinely heard, without judgment, and where we can begin to make sense of things and find a way forward. A strong therapeutic relationship is central to my work and provides the foundation for understanding patterns that may be keeping you stuck, clarifying what matters to you, and supporting you in building the life you want.

I offer integrative psychotherapy for adults experiencing anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, ADHD, burnout, low self-worth, or a loss of meaning.
My approach is relational, thoughtful, and grounded in the belief that clients often hold more understanding and capacity within themselves than they may initially realise, and symptoms often carry meaning rather than simply needing to be "fixed". Side by side, we explore both present-day challenges and the deeper emotional patterns that may sit underneath them.

I believe that we all have a deep need to be understood; the feeling that another human being gets it. For some of us, that feeling is all too rare. Without it, our lives can become deeply unfulfilling, painful and hard, and we can feel let down by others, hurt and alone. Sometimes we don't even understand for ourselves why things are so difficult. Perhaps we've become trapped by events of the past, or can’t imagine a new future because the present is so intolerable. Faced with this, we can turn to ways of being that, although they helped initially perhaps, over time just made things worse.

People often come to me when something in their intimate, sexual or relational life feels confusing, stuck or quietly painful; recurring conflict, low/no desire, infidelity, shame or behaviour that is out of control, including compulsive sexual behaviour or pornography use. It might follow a birth, an illness or injury, a loss, or years of functioning well outwardly while privately struggling with intimacy, relationships, culture, or identity. This work goes beyond traditional talking therapy; direct, practical and emotionally attuned, helping us name what's happening rather than going in circles, so real change actually happen

Therapy can help us to understand ourselves, identifying areas of struggle to find a way to change and live a more fulfilling life. Sometimes there is a traumatic incident in our past that we start remembering or we start experiencing general anxiety, depression or relationship issues. Often we have an idea about what we need to do but are unable to move on and feel stuck. I believe that talking about things is helpful. It is a way of dealing with our difficulties and a step towards a different path.

Present difficulties often have their roots in our past. We are very creative at finding solutions, or self-cures, for what we have experienced. They help us to get by. But often, what troubles us today is a self-cure that no longer works. It's time to time to try something else.

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.
What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.
When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.
How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
