The issues that I can help with include compulsions and addictions, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship issues, conflict, infidelity, loss and grief, sex, compulsive sexual behaviour, loss of desire, orgasmic difficulties, vaginismus, erectile and ejaculation difficulties, pain during intercourse, exploration of gender, sexual orientation and relationship types.
Certain experiences or learned patterns can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from ourselves and others. We often yearn for change but may not know where to start. These difficulties can show up in our intimate relationships or sex lives, affecting our confidence, intimacy and sense of belonging. Though sometimes invisible, such struggles profoundly affect our well-being and lead to feelings of shame, isolation, or hopelessness. I believe that change is possible, and that therapy can be a meaningful path to new ways of feeling, connecting and living a fulfilling life.

I specialise in working with eating disorders, low mood and anxiety, but my training allows me to work with many psychological difficulties.
Most people come to therapy when something isn’t working anymore. You may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or worn down from coping on your own. You’ve tried to make changes, but the same patterns keep repeating. You know something needs to shift, even if you’re not sure how. I aim to offer a space where you feel genuinely heard, without judgment, and where we can begin to make sense of things and find a way forward. A strong therapeutic relationship is central to my work and provides the foundation for understanding patterns that may be keeping you stuck, clarifying what matters to you, and supporting you in building the life you want.

My main approach is to encourage you to explore your feelings and take responsibility for your thoughts and actions. As I work in a way that empowers the client, I always work with what you present. Bottled up feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief, jealousy, sadness, shame and pain can become very overwhelming. The opportunity to express them can make it much easier to understand yourself and others. As I acknowledge your feelings and respect you as a person in your own right, you gain self-respect and a sense of being valued. This leads to building trust between counsellor and client, which is an essential part of the process.

I have extensive experience of working with issues impacting on self and relationships with others, such as trauma, anxiety, depression, self-harm, eating disorders and matters of sexuality and identity.
I have worked over 25 years as a Systemic Psychotherapist - in the NHS and private sector - seeing people across a range of age, gender, ethnicity, race, class, culture, ability, sexuality and faith backgrounds - presenting with emotional, behavioral, psychological, psychiatric and social dilemmas impacting on themselves and their relationships with significant others in their lives. What I have learnt is whilst certain life events and experiences may be universal, we are all unique in the ways we respond and navigate situations. I offer a space to explore, understand, resolve difficulties and recognize strengths and resources.

I focus on using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as research indicates that CBT can help many difficulties such as: anxiety-based problems (panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety, health anxiety, phobias), depression and low mood, eating disorders, sleep difficulties, low self esteem, problematic perfectionism, and anger.
CBT looks at the impact of our thoughts and behaviours on our emotional state. We can get trapped in unhelpful patterns in our thought processes and things we do, which cause distress and get in the way of us leading our life. CBT aims identify and change these unhelpful cycles. EMDR can help people to move on from distress related to traumatic events.

My experience includes working with complex trauma, personality disorders, anger, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression.
Change, while necessary for growth, can feel threatening. It often comes with a price—whether it's letting go of old defenses, facing difficult emotions, or confronting the unknown. I help clients explore these struggles, making change feel possible and, ultimately, more rewarding than the cost of staying the same.

I work with people with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, ADHD, eating disorders, self harm, early life trauma, sexual trauma and for some a wish to talk about a feeling but without necessarily knowing what it is but something simply doesn't quite feel right.
I have twenty years experience supporting people with self-harm issues, drug or alcohol dependency, sexual abuse, homelessness, domestic abuse and battles with self-esteem, depression and anxiety. This experience helps me to combine a practical level of help for my clients with the skills needed to help them move their lives in the direction they want.

I have a special interest of helping adults who have unhelpful coping strategies that keep them stuck, such as eating too much or too little; drinking too much; withdrawing into themselves; &/or working harder to activate perfectionist & self-destructive behaviours. Perhaps you're questioning who you are as you struggle with such feelings & question if you'll ever feel better? Perhaps you struggle to find the right words to talk about how you're feeling & shut down if others ask how you are? You don't know where else to turn, struggle on & feel afraid of what may happen if you're not okay. You are exhausted & want things to change.

I hold a Masters in counselling and have undergone other training in eating disorders and compassion focused therapy.
There are many difficulties in life that can feel overwhelming at times. Life circumstances or internal struggles can leave us feeling as if we are not getting what we should out of life and we want to be able to move forward. In all circumstances I believe passionately in the power of therapy to help enact positive change. The tools and skills you could learn with me can enable you to feel that you can live the rest of your life free from what has been holding you back. We would do this together working at your pace and always being in partnership.

Eating Disorders Counsellors
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviours, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behaviour affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counselling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioural disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behaviour, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognise they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behaviour has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
