I am an experienced therapist who has helped people of all ages, genders and backgrounds overcome issues such as anxiety, depression, and anger management problems.
Using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) we will work together to address your negative thoughts, redefine any self-defeating beliefs, and develop behaviours more in line with the life you want to lead. Therapy can sometimes be challenging but by working as a team and fostering a strong, trusting bond we can work towards achieving your goals.

Are past disappointments still holding you back? Are you afraid of getting close to people for fear of getting hurt? Do you feel afraid that your decisions would cause upset and you will end up being disliked and feel rejected? If you have answered yes to any of these questions it may mean that you're struggling to feel safe expressing your true self, because of fear, rejection or past hurt. It takes courage to share your inner thoughts, especially if you’ve felt unheard, dismissed, or had your trust broken before. Trust grows over time, and in therapy we’ll move at your pace. I’ll accept you fully, just as you are.

I have special interests in Relationship issues, Addiction, Anger and Mixed-race Mental Health, which means I'm particularly attuned to the unique challenges and experiences in these areas.
In a session, we will be working through things together, side by side, at your own pace. There’s no rush, no dismissal—just a space for you to better understand yourself and take the steps toward healing, on your own terms. Every person’s journey is unique, and I’m here to walk alongside you as you rediscover your path. In our sessions, strength is about allowing yourself to be vulnerable; your voice is valued, and your story will be met with warmth and compassion. I work with clients across the UK and offer sessions via video, telephone or in-person.

I also work extensively with both men and women around anger management, trauma, boundary setting, and addiction, helping them navigate these issues with compassion and clarity.
My priority is creating a safe, non-judgemental space where clients feel they can truly be themselves. That’s often the starting point—having a place to be heard without fear of criticism. From there, we work together to develop practical, real-world strategies that empower clients to move forward and build the life they want beyond their immediate challenge

My name is Beth Bolitho and I am a neuro-affirmative psychodynamic therapist working with children, teens, young adults and parents. We all have our mountains to climb. Sometimes the journey can seem insurmountable. We need a companion to encourage us and keep us safe; someone with whom we can sit and reflect about the challenges, our achievements as well as thinking about the path yet to climb. I provide a listening ear, helping people to make sense of their worries, whether it be stress and anxiety, coping with family breakdown or bereavement, struggling with peers, or just feeling uncertain about the future.

The step to take therapy can be a daunting process, but you are not alone. Therapy is a gradual co-created process that you can take your time with, with support and encouragement. This time of year, you may be feeling a sense of hopelessness, stuck or longing but unsure of what direction to take. My approach explores patterns that may be rooted in the past, bringing more awareness to our way of being, how we view the world and how we might make meaningful changes.

Everybody struggles from time to time and sometimes it can get in the way of our lives. Have you noticed changes in your life? Are you worrying more than usual and finding it hard to relax? Maybe you are feeling sad, low in mood or get cross and irritable more quickly? Is it hard to put yourself first or just saying no? Do you feel less motivated or less enjoyment in life? Or have you noticed difficulties with sleeping? Perhaps you don’t feel the way you want. Or do you just feel ‘stuck’? These struggles could be getting in your way or affecting relationships with those closest to you. If so, these are things I can help you with.

Whatever it is that has led you here, my aim as a counsellor is to help you to know yourself more fully. This can involve identifying ways in which you might be getting in your own way, repeating old patterns that no longer serve you. There may be narratives that you have about yourself that don't ring true. Through a process of exploration, I hope you can learn to be more fully present in your life and to deepen your relationships with yourself and those around you. I cannot change who you are, but I can help you to make peace with who you already are, and the life that you have lived.

I know firsthand how difficult it can be to overcome challenges that stop us from getting to where we want to be. Whether it’s fear, anxiety or feeling mentally stuck, an open and safe place solely for you can help you to find some clarity and relief. Our closest relationships can also have a direct impact on our lives. It is this that led me to study psychotherapy with a focus on relationships, to help you to make the meaningful connections you seek, to be open & authentic and to set the healthy boundaries you may need.

You may be successful, capable, and relied upon by others; yet privately you feel anxious, emotionally depleted, or stuck in the same relationship patterns. Many of the clients I work with are highly responsible, caring adults who have spent years being “the strong one.” You may over-function in relationships, struggle to rest without guilt, or notice that despite insight, self-help, or professional success, something still feels misaligned. I specialise in working with high-functioning women, helping professionals, and emotionally intelligent individuals who want therapy that goes beyond symptom management.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
