Myclient (s) would be couples or individuals who struggle in their relationships. Their issues would include communication, loneliness, depression, loss, struggling to find the couple after children, empty nest syndrome and many more. Their goals would be to understand the recurrent patterns that are putting strain on the relationship and resolve the underlying issues. Counselling and psychotherapy may involve exploring the past to the extent that it influences the present.

I’m a psychologist specialising in the mental health care of adults over the age of 65. I have experience with working with a range of conditions including anxiety, stress and depression. I also have experience of working with those with physical and cognitive difficulties. In addition to working with older people, I also offer support to those caring for a loved one with physical or cognitive problems. I understand how stressful it can be in a caring role, and can offer some practical guidance and strategies, as well as a space to offload.

Everybody struggles from time to time and sometimes it can get in the way of our lives. Have you noticed changes in your life? Are you worrying more than usual and finding it hard to relax? Maybe you are feeling sad, low in mood or get cross and irritable more quickly? Is it hard to put yourself first or just saying no? Do you feel less motivated or less enjoyment in life? Or have you noticed difficulties with sleeping? Perhaps you don’t feel the way you want. Or do you just feel ‘stuck’? These struggles could be getting in your way or affecting relationships with those closest to you. If so, these are things I can help you with.

Many people come to therapy feeling anxious, low, or overwhelmed by unhelpful patterns that keep them stuck. Others are navigating life transitions, wanting to understand themselves better, or searching for new ways to cope with stress and emotions. The aim is often to find balance, confidence, and a clearer direction, so that daily life feels lighter and more manageable.

We all need help from time to time, and you shouldn't be embarrassed for asking for it. I am a down to earth and compassionate person, who understands what it is like to need a boost. In my years I have truly heard it all, and my biggest goal is to empower rather than judge my clients. One of my favourite quotes comes from Marisa Peer who explains that “to be happy you have to make peace with your past, love the present and feel so excited about the future”. No problem is too big to solve and I have witnessed counselling change the lives of so many people and I know I can help change yours too.

I offer a warm and supportive space to support your growth and healing process. "Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand That this too, was a gift." Mary Oliver . Mental and emotional suffering are part of life, the pain at times can be too much to bear on our own, which impacts our ability to enjoy life. Counselling can be a safe space to be held, seen and find the gifts that otherwise could be lost in the crisis and challenges we face. Suffering is inevitable but it does not need to be endless. I offer free teachings on self-care through my Instagram and YouTube accounts.

Are you looking to better understand and reduce the impact of your anxiety? Or maybe you want to explore your past and make sense of difficult relationships and events? Perhaps you're trying to manage changes in life and need to work through where you're at and where you'd like to get to? As you know, people come to therapy for many different reasons. Some people need to get things off their chest in a safe space, others want to actively work on managing difficult emotions or relationships, or work through change. It's also ok if it's hard to articulate why exactly you'd like therapy, we can figure that out together.

Dementia Counsellors

Can dementia patients benefit from counselling?

Dementia patients can often benefit significantly from counselling. While neurologists typically treat dementia itself, counsellors provide crucial emotional support for patients and their families. Therapists specializing in dementia can help clients navigate aging, end-of-life issues, social isolation, sleep challenges, and grief. They can also assist clients in adapting to the disease by addressing caregiving concerns and supporting family members. Counsellors will often also collaborate with a patient's neurologist or other medical providers to manage dementia symptoms and medication needs.

How can you tell if someone has dementia or Alzheimer's?

To determine if someone has dementia or Alzheimer's disease, there are several signs and diagnostic methods that medical professionals use. Early signs of dementia often include memory loss, difficulty with problem-solving, and challenges in completing familiar tasks. Diagnosing dementia or Alzheimer's requires a comprehensive approach, as there is no single definitive test, and initial diagnosis can sometimes be difficult as symptoms tend to worsen progressively over time. To make a diagnosis, medical professionals typically use a combination of methods, including standardized questionnaires and cognitive tests to assess memory, attention, and problem-solving skills, psychiatric evaluations to understand mental health status, brain scans to look for physical changes in the brain, as well as other medical tests to rule out other conditions.

What are the first-line treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease?

There is no cure for Alzheimer's disease, but catching the disease in its early-to-moderate phases can be beneficial in order to initiate first-line treatments to help manage symptoms. Medications such as galantamine, rivastigmine, and donepezil are examples of cholinesterase inhibitors that are commonly prescribed for Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, working with a therapist or social worker can also often help patients with the disease address common behavioural and lifestyle concerns, such as anxiety, depression, irritability, sleep problems, social support, and housing changes.

When to seek treatment for Alzheimer’s?

It’s best to seek treatment at the first signs of Alzheimer's. Early warning signs of Alzheimer’s include memory problems, such as forgetting appointments or directions, as well as trouble concentrating, paying attention, retrieving words, and carrying out daily household tasks. An early diagnosis can help people slow the progression of the disease with medication and plan for the future in terms of housing, social/caregiving support, and finances.
