I work with people of all ages and backgrounds, at different stages of their lives and with different things that they would like to address. Sometimes people come with something specific such as anxiety or a bereavement, following a relationship breakdown or with obsessive compulsive symptoms. Sometimes people come because they are dissatisfied with work, or relationships; friendships, family or intimate relationships. And sometimes people come because they feel stuck or out of sorts, like they want things to be different and they're not sure how, but they want change somehow. Individuals and couples.

I provide an understanding ,  non-judgemental and safe space where you will be heard and where you can bring issues and concerns that may be preventing you from being who you want to be and where you want to be in your life. I have worked with people of all ages, and clients dealing for a range of concerns, including bereavement, anxiety, self-esteem, and identity issues.
I have trained in existential psychotherapy, and I apply this in my work with clients. The starting point is the experience of the client, to provide the opportunity for them to examine their understanding of life, and the problems and dilemmas they face; to reassess their goals and desires. It provides an opportunity to consider how their choices have been constrained, perhaps by the views and expectations of others, but also by constraints rooted in our society. Understanding can lead to questioning, and growth, possibly in new directions.

You may be facing an immediate crisis, or dealing with long-standing challenges. You may be facing bereavement, struggling to overcome anxiety or tackling addiction. I believe that the therapeutic relationship provides a safe place in which you can look deeply at these issues and unpick the impact that they have across your life. In an environment of kindness and compassion, I will support you in reflecting on your life and exploring the situation in which you find yourself today.

I think we sometimes come to therapy not knowing exactly what it is that's causing us pain. Maybe we feel fear, anger, confusion or just a sense of detachment from who we feel we used to be or could be; sometimes it is only symptoms (such as addictions, eating disorders, OCD) which we can identify. Past, unaddressed, trauma may be arsing or you might be experiencing family or work issues or, maybe, you’re in grief (from a death/relationship breakdown). Whatever your reason for wanting therapy I know that, ultimately, we want to feel better than we do right now.

There are many reasons to look for a therapist, ranging from a crisis now to a general feeling of unhappiness, stemming from your past. Anxieties, stress, feeling sad, isolation, as well as relationships, families, parenting, marriage, divorce, addictions, bereavement and loss are issues that we will all face at some point in our lives. They can leave us feeling confused and lost and without anyone to help us make sense of it. Therapy is safe, secure & non judgemental providing understanding, insight leading to change for you.

I work with clients presenting with complex issues such as Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Autism, BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), Bereavement, and Loss.
I’m a UKCP-Registered Neurodiverse Psychotherapist trained in Transactional Analysis which has its roots in Psychodynamic and Humanistic psychotherapy, and share similarities with Schema therapy. Transactional Analysis (TA) examines an individual's personality and how this has been shaped by experiences. This means I’m able to help clients understand the root of their issues and therefore make lasting changes.

Stuck, confused, overwhelmed, anxious or depressed? Struggling with a relationship, bereavement, job loss, parenthood, or parents? Perhaps you don’t know your exact problem, only that something isn’t right. My role is to help clients explore their issues, gain insight, clarity and understanding, then support them as they move towards change. Working together, we explore where they are now, how they got there, where they’d prefer to be, and how they might do things differently.

Bereavement Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
