There are many reasons why people seek psychological support, perhaps they feel stuck in one or more areas of their life or they have noticed unhelpful and hurtful patterns of being, both with themselves and others, and would like this to be different. People may want to better understand where these patterns come from and how they can change. Often life can ‘look good on paper’ and yet a person can feel unhappy or that something is lacking in their life. In therapy we can explore what might be underlying a sense of discontent or unease.

You may find it difficult, sometimes impossible, to control feelings of panic, anger, unworthiness or despair. If everyday life sometimes overwhelms you, for whatever reason, whether it's a result of trauma, difficult life changes, or unhelpful ideas about who you are, change is possible and can be quicker than you would think! If you are looking to gain perspective, learn ways of coping, feel more in control and hopeful about your ability to cope, I can help.

Executive functions are a set of brain processes that are found in the prefrontal cortex of the brain. Executive function skills help us to plan and organise our responses, behaviour and emotions. Sometimes things can feel too much. The stresses of work, relationships or socialising can feel too overwhelming. Or you may have had to deal with a loss, of your job, a partner, your identity or relationship or having children. Anxiety or depression may be limiting or crippling you. We can all just ‘get on with things and carry on’ but does it always have to be so difficult. It can be hard to know who to turn to or you may feel unable to reach out to friends or family. Taking the first steps into counselling can be daunting, I know how hard that can be.

It's entirely reasonable for us all, at some point, to be anxious and confused by life, challenged by relationships, family life and or the direction of our career. Life can be difficult, there's no denying that, you just don't have to suffer in silence. Really, the only qualification in seeking therapy is to be a normal human being. I could go on 'selling' the benefits, but ultimately I assure you, if you try, things will change, and quite possibly for the better.

Sometimes it is difficult to make sense of our lives; we may not like or understand how we behave or react, but feel unable to change. Sometimes a part of us may feel overwhelmed by life events, feel anxious or depressed, or struggle with difficult relationships Deciding to meet with a therapist can be an important step in helping you to make changes and move forward in life. A therapist will provide a reflective space, where you can speak your mind and explore your difficulties.

Dear one, are you someone who experiences things more deeply than others? I see you and I'd love to support you on your journey, which I imagine is not an easy one. You may be going through a big transition, challenge or loss. There may be some old wounds and patterns playing out in your life and your relationships. You might be feeling stuck or overwhelmed, but not sure how to go about it. Whatever you bring - I would love to offer you a gentle, authentic and deeply compassionate space to explore and process your experience in the safety of knowing that in this space all of you and what you bring will be welcome and honoured.

You may be considering professional counselling for many different reasons. It may be that you are experiencing emotional difficulty or discomfort as a result of some kind of severe and identifiable trauma or loss or it may be that you have more of a feeling or sense of unease that things are not quite right, or could be better. Some people have a particular experience or challenge they want to work through, for others their goals are less specific and more general. Whatever your situation, professional counselling could help. Please feel free to get in touch.
