I provide an integrative counselling experience. This means I utilise aspects of several models of therapy to suit individual circumstances. It is unrealistic to expect one model of therapy to work for everyone therefore, having access to several models provides an approach that may be tailored to each individual's needs. Therapy should be a collaborative experience where we work together to find the right solutions. In doing so, I hope to find long-term answers for those tired of the 'revolving door' experience of counselling with symptoms being temporarily relieved but continually recurring.

Life can get really difficult sometimes – we may know why we’re finding things hard, but we may not and that's OK too. Through therapy we can explore what’s happening for you and find the way through together. We can look at what’s on your mind and what it’s like being you as well as the role your past might have played. We can go at your pace and you’ll decide what you want from coming to see me. I work sensitively and respectfully with all ethnicities, cultures and sexualities. I offer both long term support to clients wishing to explore their feelings in depth and short-term work if you’re wanting to address a specific problem.

Is there something troubling you? Something upsetting you? Something making you sad, anxious, angry, fearful, lonely or unheard? Have you lost someone you love or lost direction? Or is it something inside that you can’t fathom out, but is affecting your life? These feelings and many others are ones we all face during our lives and when they remain unaddressed they can lead to anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship problems, work issues, loss of self-confidence and self-esteem, or simply a feeling of being stuck. The good news is that therapy can help you explore one's issues you in a safe, caring and confidential space.

Hello, I’m a qualified Integrative Counselling Therapist, and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I offer a safe and supportive space where you can explore your current and past life experiences, understand yourself on a deeper level, and discover new ways of coping and growing. My approach is warm, empathic, and person-centred. I believe therapy works best when you feel really heard, accepted, and understood without judgement. Together, we can explore feelings and patterns that may have been hidden, painful, or difficult to express, and gently make sense of how they affect you.

Hello, I am Charlotte and I'm a counsellor and psychotherapist. I am also a trauma and complex trauma professional. Clients of mine often say they 'feel different, feel they don't fit in' or have a sense that 'they are not able to function like "normal" people'. They find daily life hard, triggering and often overwhelming. Usually, we start by speaking about how you have been in the last few weeks & months. We look at what issues you have been struggling with, and how you managed to cope. We also reflect on your support system and things which bring you joy. Then, we would talk about how life was like for you as a child, and how

Experiencing anxiety, depression, problems in relationships or some more elusive trouble that is difficult to name? There are many situations that prompt people to seek help when they encounter a problem in living and struggle to find a way through confusion and emotional suffering. Talking things trough helps. As a therapist, my primary concern is to create a warm and respectful relationship that would provide support as well as encourage you to express your feelings and reflect upon what is going on for you. Rather than being a neutral observer, I seek to involve myself in your effort to deal with your distress.

At times, life can feel hard to manage. When this happens, it helps to have a space where we can be listened to and met, just as we are, with the sole goal of making sense of what's happening for us. We all deserve to feel happy, useful, calm and in control. Coming to understand ourselves better through therapy can be the key to unlocking peace for ourselves.

It can be daunting to find a therapist you can trust for help with your emotional and psychological difficulties. Often our suffering is concealed from friends, family or colleagues because we are good at hiding it but deep inside, we are left feeling far from happy, fulfilled or content. I am passionate about helping people live better lives. I believe in creating a trusting therapeutic relationship where people can safely discuss their difficulties without fear of criticism or shame. I help them discover what matters to them and how they would like to show up in the world through healing and reconnecting with their strengths.

We all go through difficult periods in our lives. Sometimes for easily identifiable reasons - bereavement, loss, heartbreak, employment stress, family or relationship difficulties, trauma. But sometimes things don't feel right and we don't know why. Perhaps you wake up with a feeling of dread. Perhaps you feel empty, going through the motions of a life that no longer feels like the one you wanted. Talking to friends or family can feel impossible, either from shame or a fear of being a burden. It's easy to become trapped in lonely isolation and feel helpless to effect change. I hope I can help you to lighten the load.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
