My clients often describe feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted by trying to keep everything together. They may notice recurring patterns of overthinking, self-criticism, or burnout and want to break free from them. They’re looking for evidence-based therapy that’s practical and supportive — a space where they can make sense of what’s happening and learn new ways of coping. Their goal is to feel more confident, present, and in control of their emotions and choices.

Life often presents challenges that can leave us feeling overwhelmed, trapped in unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, and struggling with emotions that seem too intense to manage. These issues can impact our day-to-day life, relationships, and overall well-being, leading to symptoms like anxiety, panic, depression, or a sense of hopelessness. I specialise in supporting individuals through anxiety (including generalised anxiety, OCD, panic, and PTSD), depression, trauma, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties. Together, we can work towards meaningful change and emotional balance.

I offer a space for peace and reflection, helping to understand how the way we react to what life throws at us can make things even harder. I offer individual counselling using Mindfulness-based Therapy, combining Western approaches to psychotherapy with the wisdom and awareness of Buddhism. You may feel anxious, or depressed, you may be affected by psychosexual issues, by grief and bereavement, living with illness, especially HIV/AIDS, or caring for a loved one with a mental health problem. You may be going through problems coming from your multicultural background, having identity issues and trouble at reintegration.

Would other people say that you’ve made a success of your life but you feel like there’s something missing? Would you like things to be different but have no idea what this would look like or where to begin? Perhaps you’ve realised that your trusted patterns of behaviour and coping strategies are no longer working for you, leaving you feeling stressed, anxious and overwhelmed. Events in our lives can leave us feeling uncertain about the future and questioning who we are and where we would like to go next. Counselling and psychotherapy offer the breathing space to make sense of your life and what you might like to be different.

Hi, I’m Aisling, a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). I have over 10 years’ experience across NHS and third sector community and specialist services, and I currently work in a London service supporting adults with trauma histories and complex emotional needs. My approach focuses on understanding how your current difficulties are shaped by your life experiences. Together we can make sense of life patterns and create space for change. I’m especially interested in how past experiences of trauma or adversity can continue to influence how we feel, think, and connect with others.

Right now you may feel desperate, lost, empty, stressed, anxious or fed up. Whatever difficulty has prompted you to seek Counselling does not define who are you are and the journey you want to take in life. Together we will explore your feelings of being stuck, alone or in darkness as you strengthen your own resources to create greater wellbeing, resilience and satisfaction. No person is the same or brings identical experiences but frequent issues I work with include depression, anxiety, loss & bereavement, trauma, suicidal thoughts, work or school stress and relationship tensions. I work with clients aged 13+ and with Couples.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
