Couples Counselling in Central London, London
Empathy, congruence and acceptance are central to creating a trusting relationship.
Counselling is a confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, beliefs or experiences over a period of time with the support of a trained listener. It is a non-judgmental, safe space, which helps to be able to reflect what is happening in your life and find alternative ways of handling them. Talking it through with a trusted counsellor helps to develop self-awareness and insight into how a person relates both to themselves and to those around them, along with finding new methods of dealing with everyday life experiences.

I offer one-to-one and couples' therapy both exclusively online at the present time.
Being human, it is only natural we are continuously faced with life's numerous challenges. Painful emotions, such as fear, sadness, grief, frustration, anger and many more show up in response to life's challenges and we have all been 'well-trained' to go for 'fixing' or 'controlling' these responses in the quickest way possible. Ironically, it is this urge to control such painful internal experiences, that often creates and in fact exacerbates our struggles! I am here to help you gain new skills to manage difficult internal experiences in a more helpful manner so you can start living your life more fully.

I specialise in depression and loss, managing life transitions, issues stemming from childhood, sexuality and sexual identity and relationship intimacy.
My name is Marek and I am a Psychotherapist and a Sex and Relationship Therapist who works in a private practice and in a higher education institution in London. I believe therapy helps people to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships to become free of old patterns, or simply find ways to process pain or memories that have kept them feeling stuck. I strongly believe that we simply repeat what we don't repair. I have a heart and a passion for the work I do in creating effective change. My clinical experience includes working for: NHS, a community counselling services, and a suicidal respite centre.

In my years of experience, I have worked for the NHS in a number of settings, including, primary care mental health service, weight management service, and Women’s Health at University Colleague Hospital (providing psychological therapies to people with intersex and complex gynecological conditions, and couples with fertility issues).
I view therapy as a collaborative enterprise between client and therapist, with the shared goal of gaining understanding and facilitating a process of acceptance or change. In recognising that we are all unique, each with our own beliefs, values and attitudes about ourselves, others, and the world, I believe that it is important to tailor therapy to the individual needs of my clients. I work with a range of psychological theories and approaches, including Existential-phenomenological therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement therapy, providing both short and longer-term therapy, where appropriate.

I work with couples.
I am a transactional analysis psychotherapist and counsellor. I always appreciate that it takes courage to seek support and the first step can seem daunting. Therapy can help to organise your thoughts and feelings and free you from repeated patterns of behaviour that prevent you from leading a happier and more fulfilling life. You can learn to understand why those patterns are there and how to change them, so that they no longer control what you are trying to achieve for yourself. I work online and face to face (depending on availability of space). The virtual setting is calm, confidential and safe.

If you think that your partner or parents would like to know more about your struggle, and how best to help and support you, I can offer a BPD private Psycho-education session as a one-off, to help your partner or relatives to understand you better.
Have you been struggling with intensive emotions? Have you found it difficult to relate to people? Have you noticed that you have a strong fear of being rejected? Have you noticed that you move between extremes -- either liking someone or hating them the next moment? If the answer to any of these questions is "Yes" then mine is the correct Service for you. There is a long queue for NHS treatment for clients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and I am able to offer the same treatment as NHS offers,

I approach difficulties such as low mood, trauma, anxiety, and sexual or relationship problems with a curiosity about ‘what have you had to go through?’ rather than ‘what is wrong with you?’.
I am a Clinical Psychologist with 15 years of experience working with people struggling with complex life & emotional difficulties. Through building a trusting relationship, I aim to sit alongside my clients & empower them in their journeys towards getting to know themselves better, understanding their difficulties, and compassionately making change. I centre compassion and non-judgement in my work, integrating ideas borrowed from Narrative Therapy (NT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Analytic Therapy (CAT) and body work.

I am a Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist, working with individuals and couples. Experiencing an issue with sex or sexuality can be enormously upsetting and damaging to self esteem. Often relationships suffer as a result. Perhaps you have lived with a sexual issue or question about your sexuality for a while and have decided that now is the time to understand it better and work towards a goal. You may be in a relationship where the same argument or sequence plays out, or perhaps you find forming and maintaining relationships difficult and want to understand this better.

I’m here to start your healing journey with you. This is your safe space, where you can explore the pain and trauma that you’ve held with you for however long. I can imagine the thought of sharing this with somebody new is daunting and maybe even scary for some .. but that’s okay. Trust the process and allow yourself to be in this journey together. For my Muslim clients, I may combine elements of an Islamic model for therapy which solidifies the therapeutic relationship.

I offer an equal, open and accepting relationship space as well as specialised therapeutic techniques (EMDR, Solution Focused Therapy, Focusing) within an existential framework.
We get a sense of ourselves in the context of our relationships in childhood, and as we find our way in life, we can get trapped in dysfunctional patterns. The aim is to find a compassionate inner connection that would free us from these patterns in therapy. Openness and commitment are important qualities in making the most out of it. The process will get challenging from time to time, as life does as well. The important thing here is to build a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship that would enable us to work through these challenges in a relational way as we transform ourselves and our lives based on our desires.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
