In the past decade I have worked in the social care and mental health sector, particularly with autism and learning disabilities, as well as doing counselling charitable work with elderly people.
If you are struggling with unresolved emotions, anxiety, depression, or patterns in your life that seems beyond your control, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a powerful tool for investigating the impact of our past and present experiences on our feelings, behaviours, and intentions in life. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a relational journey of self-exploration. As a compassionate and experienced psychotherapist, I offer a safe and non-judgmental space where to understand deep-rooted issues and foster lasting change.

I have particular interest in working with adults with late-diagnosed ADHD and autism, whether that be self-realised or self-diagnosed, or formally diagnosed.
My belief as a practitioner is that as humans we are inherently good, but our circumstances and environment can impact how we view ourselves and others. Often, a person seeks therapy because they feel in conflict, moving between thinking about what they ‘should be’ and what they think they ‘are’. Events throughout life can cause us to challenge these scripts and can bring barriers and obstacles that prevent us living as our authentic selves. My role as counsellor is to offer a non-judgemental, empathic space where these thoughts can be explored and reflected upon safely and collaboratively.

I have experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, shame, bereavement, neurodivergence, autism, relationship difficulties and family strain.
I am an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist, working in both private practice and academia. When offering therapy, I strive to be non-judgmental, compassionate and warm. I see therapy as a collaborative process, where both you and I come together to mutually agree on your goals for therapy. I take special care to be aware of the intersections in our identities such as gender, ethnicity, race, sexuality, neurodivergence and ability levels. I also value being receptive to your needs and aim to help you navigate any difficulties you are experiencing and come out the other side.

I know living with Autism and ADHD is tiring.
Always anxious, feeling low and only ever imagining what a different life can look like? Are you tired of repeating the same patterns in life and ready for change? Continuously feeling misunderstood by others and sometimes even yourself? Do you often wonder who you are and what you really want in life? Our life experiences can make us feel like there is always something to worry about, we often worry about a yesterday we will never get back and a tomorrow that is not promised. We can work together to find happiness in the present. Therapy can be a daunting place, and everyone has their views on how it may help.

Through working in multiple NHS child services, I am specialised in providing interventions for children with disabilities (e.g. autism) and their families.
I am a compassionate and insightful mental health professional possessing a broad range of clinical experience with people with mental health conditions. I have gained this from over 10 years of working therapeutically. I am passionate about using evidence-based psychological techniques that are grounded in a tailored understanding of a person’s distress. I do this by constructing and continually refining a formulation to make sense of someone’s difficulties, drawing on both theoretical models and information that presents during therapy. I am proactive and enthusiastic about achieving successful therapy outcomes.

I specialise in working with couples where one or both partners are on the autism spectrum (or Asperger's Syndrome).
Are you struggling to communicate with your partner? Feel like your partner doesn't understand you? Do you wish you could turn the clock back to happier times in your relationship? Many couples face difficulties in their relationship at some time or other, and this can often be a stressful experience, leaving one or both partners feeling hurt, lonely or rejected. Relationship counselling can help you re-connect with each other, reduce conflict in the relationship, and regain the closeness and intimacy you once had.

My focus will be on helping you understand the function they have served for you, where they come from, and how to bring about change I have experience of working with individuals who present with diagnoses such as ADHD, autism, with one or more of the many different personality disorder, and with individuals who experience psychotic states of mind.
Most people who seek counselling and psychotherapy do not come with a diagnosis; they come because they are struggling with what’s going on in their life and/or what’s going on in their mind, and they are looking for change.

I bring warmth, compassion and humour to my work and have interests in addictions, anxiety (especially OCD), depression, gender identity, ADHD, autism and bereavement.
I will work with you to address specific issues preventing you from feeling happy and fulfilled. Equally, I can help you to identify your goals if you are struggling to understand why you are feeling the way that you do. This may involve brief, focussed work, or a more exploratory approach to reach a greater understanding of yourself and your needs.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
