Psychologist, PsychD, HCPC - Forensic Psych.

Alongside EMDR and Schema Therapy, I integrate approaches including IFS, CBT, DBT, ACT, MBT, and MI to adapt therapy to your individual needs.
I’m a registered Principal Psychologist, EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner and Consultant-in-training, and ISST Certified Schema Therapist with over 15 years of experience. I specialise in trauma, complex PTSD, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and relationship or family difficulties. My approach goes beyond simply understanding problems on an intellectual level. I believe deeper healing happens when we work with the emotional and bodily impact of our experiences, not just the thoughts around them. I help clients understand and break free from deeper patterns that keep them stuck and affect their relationships and wellbeing.

I support my clients in their search for meaning, and often see how unravelling the knots in relationships, tending grief, and exploring suffering can lead to a sense of purpose. I often witness how therapeutic change can be initiated through nurturing connections with embodied parts of lived experiences. An important piece in the process is attuning to the messages from within, and I support the process of listening.  My work is trauma informed, and seeking understanding of how the body holds, or ‘keeps the score’ (B. Van Der Kolk), is something we can look at together.

I like to draw from a variety of techniques, particularly Internal Family Systems, Gestalt, and the creative imagination.
Taking that first step to therapy can feel daunting, but talking to someone who isn't involved with your everyday life can help you untangle your thoughts and feelings and find much needed space to reflect and make changes in your life. Through counselling, I believe we learn to access the innate knowledge of what we each need to heal and engage in life more fully. My approach is collaborative and down to earth and along side traditional talking therapies, I use the creative imagination, the body and mindfulness techniques to create a way of working that best suits you.

I have a particular interest in working with people who find themselves navigating different worlds, identities, and expectations. This may include people who have migrated, children, grandchildren of immigrants, LGBTQIA + clients who may have grown up balancing values of one culture at home and another outside it. I am less interested in helping people fit into a predetermined idea of how life should be lived, and more in helping them discover a way of living, loving, and relating that feels meaningful, authentic, and sustainable for them.

I am an integrative transpersonal psychotherapist and full clinical member of UKCP. Transpersonal therapy looks across our entire lifespan. What is it like to be us right now; how did we come to be this way; and what do we hope for, fear or dream of for the future? But 'trans' also means 'beyond': who, in our truest selves, are we, and what do we want, beyond all the things that we are told to be and want. The integrative part means that I have also studied psychodynamic, humanistic and existential psychotherapies, as well as CBT. I welcome clients of any or no faith, gender, sexual orientation or psychiatric diagnosis.

Whether you're facing a major life change, grieving a loss, processing past trauma, or struggling with difficult relationship dynamics, I’m here to walk alongside you. Trauma can leave us feeling disconnected- from ourselves, others and our sense of direction. It can make the world and even our own bodies feel unsafe. Together, we can work to gently rebuild that connection, helping you move toward greater self-understanding, safety and purpose. I also support couples to navigate conflict, affairs, life transitions and disconnection in order to create more positive patterns in their relationship.

Whist integrating many useful approaches to therapeutic work, such as relational psychodynamic, somatic, and IFS, I work from a black empathic and feminist perspective, which welcomes people of all genders, racial and ethnic identities, and (dis)abilities, recognising that every person's experience must be seen in context of their position in their family, culture, and wider society.
Hi, I'm Karmela, a counsellor and psychotherapist working in N12 9EH, SW1V 3SG, and SW7 4TE and online. As a fully qualified and insured practitioner, I work with you collaboratively, as a team focused on you, where you are the expert on your life and I provide empathy, challenge, insight and practical strategies. The most important aspect of therapy is that we "click" and feel a connection that allows you to open up and feel safe and understood. Whether you're looking for more clarity in your life, support with life changes, relationships, managing anxiety or depression, or exploring your identity we can work through it together.

My ideal clients invest with their whole self, heart and mind, not just financially. They are ready to listen to what their body has been telling them. They want to shift, even before they have words for it. They notice the same patterns in every relationship and stop blaming everyone else. Something in them knows they are destined for more, and my words tend to find them at the right time. They are not uptight. They like to laugh. And they want work that is holistic, spiritual, grounded in clinical and life experience. I help you come home to the safety of your mind and body, so you can finally stop surviving and start living.

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
