Some people seek psychotherapy and counselling because of a quiet desire for something more, some because of an absence of joy and liveliness, some feel a lingering sadness, some find themselves in shallow relationships, some are suffering the pains of depression,
anxiety
or anger, some feel close to madness, some are curious to take a closer look at the riches within.

People come to psychotherapy and counselling for many different reasons. Perhaps it is a time of crisis or difficulty when feelings have become overwhelming and difficult to share with people that you might normally. It could be that this is linked to a desire to gain a deeper self-understanding. Simply talking to the right therapist for you can provide relief. I have a wide experience of working with different conditions and situations, in particular depression,
anxiety
, anger and relationship issues. I work with an emphasis on facilitating your enquiry in a safe and effective way, within a supportive relationship.

It can be
anxiety
-provoking to drop the mask and examine what’s underneath, to be vulnerable when you’re used to being ‘strong’ and to open yourself up for fear of being rejected or not enough.
It is often when we feel the most comfortable and at ease, does our authentic-self seep out. This is you unfiltered, unapologetic and unscripted. However, how many times do we allow ourselves to experience this? Not very often, right? Many of us wonder through life wearing a mask, trying to uphold the image we have learnt to create for ourselves - whether it’s the ‘trying-to-keep-it-together parent/partner’, the ‘reliable, always there for you friend’ or the ‘ambitious, life-goals-in-hand determined individual’.

I specialise in relationship issues,
anxiety
, work related stress, attachment issues, self esteem, low confidence issues.
We all have aims and ambitions for ourselves but life events can often leave us in places and situations that are unhelpful to us in finding our true selves and realising our full potential. I know, I've been there myself... We know that we are our own agents of change but occasionally we may need a helping hand. Metaphorically speaking, we need to adjust our sail so we can catch the wind that will take us to those unexplored waters. Do you feel like you are stuck or just unable to make what may feel like the simplest of decisions? The causes for this may not be so simple or obvious and this is where counselling can help.

When there is no one to talk to, or you feel that you would be a burden if you did, it’s time to talk to me. Perhaps there's no particular reason why; you just feel different, or anxious, stressed, out-of-place, lonely, frustrated or confused. If you think it’s too embarrassing to tell anyone, you don’t want to make a big deal out of things, or you don’t want to appear weak for not having the answers, and it feels like no-one would understand. It's ok. You have come to the right place. I'm a psychologist, working part-time in an NHS complex
anxiety
and depression service. I am also a dating and relationship specialist. I can help.

I do therapy in English and "Terapia en Español" and I work with different types of issues, such as relationships, self esteem,
anxiety
management or career development.
A therapeutic space can give us the understanding and confidence we need to make positive changes in our life. Expressing unspoken thoughts and silenced feelings is an opportunity to heal, walk light and recover a feeling of direction. It gives us perspective and open our minds to explore healthier ways of relating to ourselves. I´ve got more than 10 years of experience working with clients as a Psychologist. My approach is holistic and integrative and I have a University Master degree in Coaching and Systemic Psychology.

Do you find yourself struggling to manage
anxiety
, depression or stress? Perhaps you are aware that you need to make changes but are unsure of where to start? We all get stressed from time to time - in fact research shows that in England, in any given week, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem such as
anxiety
or depression. Many people report that they worry constantly or much of the time, leading to sleepless nights and unhealthy coping habits.

Hello, I'm Emily - a modern, down-to-earth, integrative psychotherapist based in London and online. I specialise in working with Gen Y, Gen Z and the LGBTQ+ community. Sometimes I work within quite specific areas, including
anxiety
, burnout, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, family dynamics, identity, and LGBTQ+ issues. At other times, people come to see me with a general sense of just wanting to feel more comfortable within themselves and their life - not because something in particular is 'wrong', but because they want things to feel more 'right'. Whatever it is that you want to explore in therapy, I will listen to you.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
