Whether you are struggling with a life event or you carry unhelpful patterns from the past, I would like to help you manage the present more to your satisfaction. I will listen and try to understand what life is like for you. If you feel that you are not good enough and that your low self-esteem is impacting on your choices and the view of yourself, life can be hard. Experiencing problems in important relationships in your life, or struggling to connect with people, can make you feel isolated. Talking to somebody could be the first helpful step.

It may be you find yourself feeling anxious or depressed, experienced a grief or loss of a relationship. You may be struggling with something that has come up in your personal life or find yourself still affected by something that may have happened a long time ago. On top of all my training and client work I have had a lot of life experience and I bring this all into our sessions so I can see and hear you fully. It may be that you feel so overwhelmed you don't know really where to start, or that the words just don't come so easily. In whatever place you find yourself I am ready and able to meet you wherever you are emotionally.

You are most probably working through a series of profiles, getting increasingly baffled. I feel your pain! I work with clients suffering from anxiety, depression, those facing an ending, or a new beginning, or sometimes those that just feel 'off' or lost. Therapy, and finding a safe space to explore your worries can be genuinely life changing: we can talk about your goals and expectations of therapy and your life. This space can help you to trust in yourself, and to empower you. I really believe in talking therapy and providing kinship. I have a special interest in grief and bereavement.

Taking the first step to a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage and the idea of therapy may seem daunting. Life can present challenges and sometimes we just need that space away from it all where we can talk things over and be heard - I am offering you that. I believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect which means not approaching you as an expert but as one that will listen to the things that are troubling you. In so doing I will offer you that safe space to explore and find a way through what you are facing. I will listen, I will be genuine, I will not judge.

It can be exhausting to navigate life’s challenges, particularly within this current climate of uncertainty. You may be impacted by particular concerns, such as current or past trauma, bereavement/loss, struggles within your relationships, anxiety or depression. Or you may desire to increase your own self-awareness. I strive to be alongside you in whatever you may be feeling, providing a genuine, empathetic, non-judgemental, safe space where you can explore your feelings and beliefs, how your present and past experiences may be impacting upon you, and developing the personal resilience, resources and growth that you may be seeking.

At any point in our lives we may find ourselves feeling low, depressed or anxious. This may be something that has been going on for some time, perhaps over many years, or it may be brought on by an event. It can help to share these feelings with a trained therapist. Psychotherapy offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk, think and be.

Hi there. I provide face-to-face and online counselling (from £55) with the first session free of charge. Together, we can work on helping you cope with what's going on in your life right now, and take time to explore how you might feel better about yourself. My approach is broadly 'psychodynamic', which means we pay close attention to the feelings and beliefs that we hold about ourselves and others, and which have typically taken shape at some earlier time in our lives. We can quickly become stuck in set ways of 'being me', without realising that all of us have a capacity to change in all kinds of unexpected ways.

Through counselling I provide a space just for you where you can gain insight, experience change, and realise your full potential. You may be experiencing difficulties, such as a relationship breakdown, struggling with depression or anxiety, or feeling shame or low self-esteem. Perhaps you sense something hasn’t felt right for a while, but you are unable to pin point why. Counselling gives you time each week to slow down and can help you recognise your own feelings and needs, and develop deeper connections and relationships. Counselling allows you the opportunity and space to get in touch with who you are and what you want in life.

I have worked with people, from different backgrounds, suffering from anxieties and feelings of despair and depression. Self criticism and criticism towards others may lead to isolation and low self esteem. People may not understand their feelings or why similar patterns in relationships occur. Grief arising from a loss, such as a bereavement, may too evoke a wide range of difficult feelings making it hard to cope. Whilst the facts of the past cannot be changed, your story can become updated in therapy. This can help un-addressed difficulties feel more manageable. Consequently, therapy can be a catalyst for growth and healing.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
