Are you getting the message from others that you “should be over your bereavement by now”? Do you feel guilty at not having been or done “enough” for your deceased loved one? Do you have more difficult/complicated feelings towards your deceased loved one that wouldn’t be acceptable to share with your family and friends? If you can relate to any of these questions I would be happy to hear from you. Having completed a Bereavement Support Course with Cruse Bereavement Support I have worked with many bereaved people offering an understanding, non-judgemental approach.

Counselling can help you to explore and work through emotional difficulties you may be experiencing that could be affecting your thoughts and behaviours. It is a space for you to share things that you may be finding difficult to talk to your friends and family about. These difficulties may be from your past that are now causing problems in your present or from a more recent trauma you have experienced in your life such as a relationship break-up, loss of someone close to you or difficulties with getting to sleep or sleep not feeling like sleep anymore, but feeling more like an escape.

I works as an integrative counsellor, encompasses humanistic, and Psychodynamic therapy. This simply means I put the client needs at the centre of the work together, by being empathetic, genuine, and non-judgemental, with what the client brings. Within this approach, sometimes I help a client explore past events, as this can shape there current view of the world, or created a feeling of stuck-ness in ones life. I has been able to help a number of clients overcome, or live-through difficulties.

I like to offer a safe, calm and supportive space to people who are facing difficulty in their lives. Do you have a sense of feeling confused, stuck or disappointed in relationships? Perhaps you want to talk about a disturbing loss or new circumstances. You might be facing change as you take on an unfamiliar role or pursue a new goal. Some people come to see me suffering from a lack of meaning or enjoyment in their lives. I've worked with people who don’t yet know what the matter is – or who feel like everything has gone wrong.

I believe that as human beings we have the necessary abilities to face our difficulties. However when something interrupts this process, often during childhood, we get stuck in some fixed patterns of behaviour and beliefs about ourselves. As a Gestalt therapist, through the exploration of past events and how they are experienced in the present, I aim to raise awareness on how these patterns are still affecting your present life.

You are unique and need to be understood in your own context! I work with people from all different backgrounds and with a diverse range of problems. In therapy, I support growth and a fuller self-expression through body awareness, creative experimentation, and the use of mindfulness techniques. Life throws many things at us which can knock us off our feet. Many of my clients have come to counselling feeling anxious, sad, frustrated, lonely, angry, depressed, feeling lost, experiencing relationship difficulties, or just really stuck and in each case, we have been able to work together to change those feelings.

Working in the NHS and privately, I’ve spent many hours with people who struggle with problems that distress them. Some have suffered from an enduring sense of flatness or emptiness in their lives, while others struggle with states of heightened anxiety. Some seek help due to recurring problems in their relationships: issues with sex and intimacy, or low self-esteem, or anger, or anxiety. Many are troubled by aspects of the past that remain unresolved. By speaking in confidence to an experienced listener, we can address things we may have preferred not to talk about, or even think about, but which weighed on our minds all the same.

Choosing a counsellor is a big step which can feel daunting. How do you find the therapist who will be right for you? If you are new to counselling, the various theoretical approaches listed by therapists can be confusing. Current research shows that more important than the theory is the therapeutic relationship (the relationship between you and me) and this is the cornerstone of my work. My theoretical approach is Integrative, drawing on the Psycho-dynamic, Humanistic and Existential schools within a relational working model which emphasizes the Humanistic philosophy and embraces Person Centered core process.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Counsellors

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
