I specialise in helping people with anxiety who are highly self-critical.
Does any of this sound familiar? I may be able to help. I work in a trauma-informed way, which means I help you understand how past experiences have shaped your sense of self. Then, we change the narrative and help you feel confident in your own skin.

I also work with anxiety, self-confidence and self-esteem, and increasingly the impact of an ADHD diagnosis.
I am a transactional analysis psychotherapist and counsellor. I always appreciate that it takes courage to seek support and the first step can seem daunting. Therapy can help to organise your thoughts and feelings and free you from repeated patterns of behaviour that prevent you from leading a happier and more fulfilling life. You can learn to understand why those patterns are there and how to change them, so that they no longer control what you are trying to achieve for yourself. I work online and face to face (depending on availability of space). The virtual setting is calm, confidential and safe.

I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist, clinical Cognitive Behavioral Hypnotherapist and Anxiety UK recommended therapist.
Do your feelings overwhelm you? Is it hard to stay in control? Are you unkind to yourself? I understand how hard it is to ask for help. Untangling a lifetime of feelings and thoughts can be daunting, but with the right support you can identify those limiting patterns and change the beliefs, feelings, and responses holding you back from the life you want and the person you want to be. Choice comes from understanding yourself, then making the right changes. I understand how hard it can be to do that on your own. I will be with you on that journey, supporting and empowering you to move from self-awareness to real, lasting change

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in repetitive patterns - persistent stress or anxiety that does not respond to self-help strategies, recurring relationship difficulties, feelings of emptiness or lack of meaning, or a deep sense of not being ‘enough’.
I work integratively, drawing on psychodynamic, internal family systems, person-centred, mindfulness-based, and cognitive-behavioural approaches. This allows us to collaboratively explore how past experiences might influence current patterns and relationships, process feelings in the present, and develop practical strategies for managing difficulties.

I see clients for a variety of past and presenting issues ranging from depression, anxiety, autism (diagnosed or suspected), co-existing mental health diagnoses, relationships, identity crises, as well as cultural or spiritual conflicts.
I have seen clients come with little hope, only to find what they are going through can be spoken about & heard in a way that hasn’t been understood before and that they don’t have to carry all the negative thoughts/feelings or beliefs about life, themselves or others that they are holding onto.

I work with adults experiencing anxiety, emotional overwhelm, low confidence, self-doubt, depression and relational difficulties.
It is very human to experience difficult emotions and reactions at different points in life. What can be worth exploring is when they linger, return with an intensity that feels difficult to manage, or begin to interfere with your quality of life. Therapy can involve more than understanding our difficulties intellectually. It can help us develop a deeper relationship with our emotional experience, process experiences that remain emotionally active, and discover new ways of being with ourselves and others.

If you are experiencing loss, anxiety, depression, feel sad or have difficulties in your relationships, I can support you with what is difficult at the moment.
In exploring relationships, we look at what may support and help you in different situations and how you may have become used to responding to challenges in ways that no longer work for you. Sometimes, our ways of dealing with situations can become fixed ways and we can feel stuck, holding beliefs about ourselves that get in the way of what we want.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
