At Embodied Empowerment, I support people to reconnect with the wisdom and resilience of their own bodies through trauma-informed somatic therapy and counselling. Somatic therapy simply means working with both the mind and the body. Many of us carry the impact of painful experiences not just in our thoughts, but also in our nervous systems - showing up as tension, anxiety, hypervigilance, emotional overwhelm, or feeling “shut down.” By gently working with the body, we can unlock stored patterns and move towards healing in a safe and sustainable way.

You don’t need to be in crisis to come to therapy. Maybe life just isn’t feeling the way you thought it would by now, and you’re not sure what to do about it. Or maybe you're navigating a difficult circumstance, or feeling lonely. These are completely valid reasons to start therapy. I’m Alex, I am a BACP accredited counsellor/psychotherapist, and I’ll be honoured to work with you. Therapy with me will feel welcoming, supportive, and insightful. I will give you the space and support to slow down, make sense of things, and begin to move forward with more clarity and confidence.

Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling anxious, stuck, or overwhelmed by stress, self-doubt, or relationship difficulties. Together, we look at the patterns that keep you feeling this way, whether that’s overthinking, people-pleasing, low mood, or difficulty setting boundaries; and develop practical, evidence-based strategies to help you move forward. Sessions are available online or in-person in Chiswick, West London, with flexible appointment times to suit busy schedules. I also co-founded MindHealth, a practice dedicated to high-quality, accessible therapy.

If you are struggling with feeling overwhelmed, unhappy, anxious or depressed, therapy may be able to help. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy attempts to understand how early relationships and patterns of behaviour can affect and lead to difficulties later in life. Perhaps an immediate crisis or longer term feelings of unhappiness have brought you here; both are valid and may benefit from therapy. I can offer a calm, confidential and supportive space to help you try and understand why you are feeling a certain way, and together we can work to resolve any deeper issues.

Sometimes the hardest step is reaching out. If you are reading this, you have already begun and I am here to walk alongside you as you find your way forward. As a psychodynamic and integrative psychotherapist I am especially interested in how our early relationships and life experiences shape who we become, leading to patterns of self sacrifice, difficulty with identity and sense of not fully belonging. My work focuses on helping you understand these roots, so that you can make sense of your story and find a stronger sense of self.

Life can get really difficult sometimes – we may know why we’re finding things hard, but we may not and that's OK too. Through therapy we can explore what’s happening for you and find the way through together. We can look at what’s on your mind and what it’s like being you as well as the role your past might have played. We can go at your pace and you’ll decide what you want from coming to see me. I work sensitively and respectfully with all ethnicities, cultures and sexualities. I offer both long term support to clients wishing to explore their feelings in depth and short-term work if you’re wanting to address a specific problem.

I'm a BACP registered Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist in West London. Counselling and Psychotherapy are often considered to be interchangeable terms. Usually counselling involves short term work and is recommended for specific issues such as a major life change or grief and takes place over weeks or several months. Psychotherapy is more open-ended and explorative, and tends to look at past issues that might be contributing to present day problems. I offer both short-term and open-ended therapy using a variety of modalities.

I offer a free 15 minute phone call before meeting. This gives you an opportunity to outline your current circumstances and enables me to consider whether I might be able to help you. Your first session will be an assessment where I will ask you some questions to better understand your past, your present and your expectations. This session is a two-way process for both of us to consider if we might be able to work together. Any ongoing therapy will last 50 minutes and would take place on a weekly basis.

I know how difficult it is to find a therapist you can trust for help with your emotional and psychological difficulties. Sometimes our suffering is concealed from friends, family or colleagues because we are good at hiding it but deep inside, we are left feeling far from happy, fulfilled or content. At other times our difficulties are more noticeable. I am passionate about helping people live better lives. I help them discover what matters to them, what type of person they want to be and how they would like to behave. Once their values are clarified I help them make sustainable changes towards the things that are important to them.

I aim to provide a nurturing space where you are freely able to explore any themes or issues. You may find it challenging to seek counselling whether you have done so before or it is your first time. For this reason, I ensure to offer an authentic and empathetic approach, to help you gain awareness, clarity and acceptance of any past and present experiences.

I am a fully qualified BACP Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist, with nearly 30 years' experience, who worked in frontline NHS services (Hospitals and GP surgeries) for most of my career, and now works exclusively in Private Practice. The three issues I am most proficient in treating are anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. (I count myself in the number of people I have helped out of those dark places.)

Is there something troubling you? Something upsetting you? Something making you sad, anxious, angry, fearful, lonely or unheard? Have you lost someone you love or lost direction? Or is it something inside that you can’t fathom out, but is affecting your life? These feelings and many others are ones we all face during our lives and when they remain unaddressed they can lead to anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship problems, work issues, loss of self-confidence and self-esteem, or simply a feeling of being stuck. The good news is that therapy can help you explore one's issues you in a safe, caring and confidential space.

It’s not always the things that have happened in your life but also those things that haven’t. This might show up as not feeling good about yourself or connections in your life. There could also be things you want to reflect on and understand better. As a qualified Integrative Counsellor, I can support you with perspective and working through what would be helpful. I know how hard it can be to ask for help and I know the value of talking it out in a private and understanding space.

If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties or if you have a history of trauma, therapy can be a safe way to explore your suffering in a warm, non-judgmental and confidential environment. My aim is to help you understand, accept and trust yourself and, ultimately, recognise that you have the resources to manage life's difficulties and uncertainties. Some of our current struggles come from the emotional injuries we sustained earlier in life and these need careful, gentle attention so that healing can happen. So, together we will tend to focus both on your current issues and on examining the past.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
