I draw from psychodynamic, somatic, and compassion-focused approaches to support insight, healing, and meaningful change.
Hello and welcome — I’m Nawal. You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’ve lost touch with yourself. Maybe you're navigating a difficult relationship, cultural or family expectations, or a life transition that’s left you questioning who you are. You want more clarity, confidence, and connection — with yourself and others — and space to make sense of what’s going on beneath the surface. Many of the women I work with come to therapy during life transitions, identity shifts, or periods of deep self-reflection.

I also work in a somatic way, which means that your immediate in-the-moment sensations and feelings are a primary way of exploring and processing experience, expanding awareness, resourcing and regulating the nervous system.
Life is full of unpredictable change and challenges, and we all need support sometimes. I specialise in reconnecting people with themselves, and with their direct experience as a resource for living – supporting them to restore a real sense of balance, connectedness and meaning in their lives. I offer a safe, collaborative space where we will focus on what is most important to you. I will move alongside you with understanding and presence, both supporting and challenging you, while we process what is happening together. Therapy will be a place where all aspects of your human experience are welcomed without judgement.

I am a somatic informed psychotherapist and therapeutic coach.
I became a therapist because earlier in my life therapy helped me through anxiety and an eating disorder. So I know what it feels like on the other side too! I believe deeply in the therapeutic process and I am living proof that healing and recovery can change your life for the better. Working with me, we will create a space where you can feel totally safe to open up all the issues affecting you, discuss them and explore them and hopefully help you find the clarity and direction for you to move forward in a positive way.

My counselling approach is also grounded in somatic psychology, polyvagal theory, Ego States theory, CBT, and ACT.
I’m a registered clinical counsellor (MA, RCC, CCC) and EMDR-certified therapist, providing online therapy to clients around the world in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. My personal experiences have inspired me to deepen my understanding of trauma and its related symptoms, such as anxiety and depression. I’ve dedicated myself to studying how the brain and nervous system respond to trauma, and how it can lead to changes that affect physical health, behaviour, social patterns, and our ability to cope with stress. My goal is to come alongside my clients to create conditions for healing, resilience and growth.

Eventually I was led to a study of Western Psychology approaches, specifically Psychodynamic, Somatic work, Jungian Archetypes, Dreams & Shadow Work.
Via psycho-spiritual counselling and Jungian approach I assist my clients to access, process, and release their emotional 'baggage' stored in the subconscious, which is often related to the stubborn unconscious programmes, e.g. self-sabotage or co-dependency. I also help my clients with emotional self-regulation, coping strategies & somatic yoga therapy.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
