I offer therapy for many different problems, but I have a special interest in providing therapy for PTSD, complex Trauma, Anxiety and Depression. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is the gold standard treatment for PTSD and is recommended by NICE guidelines. Many people tend to suffer from anxiety, tension and anguish for too long before reaching for help. It takes courage to enter into therapy, and it takes courage to confront our problems. As a clinical psychologist, what I offer you is a calm environment in which, with total confidentiality, you will be able to deal with any difficulties you are experiencing with the professionalism that you deserve.

There is hope even if your brain tells you there isn't, and it is my job as a counsellor to help you see it. It is usually buried somewhere under layers of shame, self-criticism and feeling not good enough. We will work together to help you feel a deeper sense of fulfilment and control over your life. With the right support and tools, you can overcome challenges and lead a more balanced and satisfying life, even if now it seems impossible.

I aim to offer a professional yet down to earth relationship in which you can explore your personal difficulties whatever they may be. Sessions are offered weekly or fortnightly, usually in an open ended way until you're feeling more like yourself again. Some people come for a few sessions, some for a few months and others decide to come longer term. Many people are now starting to use therapy over time and re-access support at times when it is needed most with someone who they trust to know them and their life well. I take a firm stance on challenging stigma surrounding mental health.

I specialise in supporting people who find themselves in repeated patterns of thinking and behaving that can cause repeated problems with work, intimate relationships, friendships and sometimes the relationship a person has with themselves. People may also find themselves stuck in unhelpful repeated ways of coping with thoughts, feelings and relationships and this can have a significant and detrimental impact on wellbeing and quality of life. Problems such as poor sleep, anxiety, OCD, up and down moods are often the by-product of difficulties with coping.

I work with children, young people, families, and adults who might be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or wanting more support. Many people come to me hoping to better understand themselves or their child and find a way forward. I offer a space to explore what’s happening, build on strengths, and feel more connected, whether that’s through direct therapy or parent and carer support.

Hi there, I'm Janet and a qualified person-centred counsellor. I previously worked in Birmingham as a Mental Health Nurse. I retrained as a Counsellor but bring with me all that experience and, I feel most importantly, understanding and empathy, an open-minded, non-judgemental attitude and an honest, genuine way of being with others. With You Counselling practice aims to remain human in each and every contact. As a person-centred Counsellor, I believe that you know yourself and what you need/want best. This is at the forefront of my way of working with each individual. Happy to meet to see if we are a fit. Speak soon!
