Anxiety has a way of shaping more of your life than you'd like, whether it shows up as overthinking, panic, constant doubt, or being on edge all the time. I work with people who've spent a long time managing and have hit the point where they can't anymore. For some, anxiety looks like panic or physical sensations. For others it looks like never feeling good enough, holding back in relationships, going quiet when they would want to speak up, or pushing through everything until they're exhausted. Some of the people I work with don't have the words for what they're feeling. They just know something has to change, and that's okay!

TL;DR I mostly work with people dealing with anxiety, depression, and/or OCD stuff/intrusive thoughts, to better understand what's happening and find ways to improve things.
I’ll encourage your interest in yourself and your life, including the overlooked or unwanted aspects, as it’s hard to change what we don’t pay attention to. I don’t know what anyone should do and I don’t push solutions. Mostly I listen, offering thoughts, questions and ideas, and hopefully furthering a shared understanding of whatever we're talking about.

I have over 20 years experience supporting children and adults experiencing common mental health difficulties, including Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( OCD), Phobias and Panic Disorder.
Hi, I’m Cat, an experienced, neuro-affirming, integrative Counsellor (MBACP/MNCPS Acc.) & low intensity CBT Psychotherapist, who’s worked therapeutically with children (6+), teenagers and adults for over 20 years in several professional roles, including Family Support, Youth Justice, Public Health, Prisons, CAMHS commissions and NHS Talking Therapies. When working in NHS Talking Therapies, I witnessed the frustrations of clients who wanted more connection and depth in therapy, to feel seen, heard and understood. This fuelled my passion to offer a personalised practice, working at your pace and focusing on what matters to you.

Hi I work with clients who want to come to counselling to get help with healing and recovering. I help you explore where issues, patterns, behaviours you follow and your core beliefs come from. We then explore, challenge, breakdown and change them. The sessions will then go on to make new beliefs, new goals and a new you. This is done by tailoring counselling sessions to you and what you need. I am an integrative counsellor who is trained in different modalities which are listed below. I am also a trained hypnotherapist and holistic therapist who believes the mind and body are connected so it’s about looking after both.

I feel that reaching out to talk to someone can be difficult, we may feel a sense of the unknown and therefore I understand that the process may be challenging. On the other hand, you may have spoken to someone before or feel at ease. Either way, through our work together I feel you have the potential to grow, develop, heal and work towards achieving your goals. No experience or issue is too large for us to work through. Therapy provides a time and space for reflection, exploration, support and understanding that we may not readily have in our day to day lives. For this reason, I feel it can hold great value.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
