I am a qualified counsellor with nearly 30 years experience. I work exclusively with couples, and only online, unless you live local to me. I can help with the dissatisfaction that often seems to follow the initial besotted phase, repetitive conflict, affairs, loss of emotional connection or passion, and sexual issues. I also specialize in parenting problems. Currently you may be thinking the person you found may not be the 'right' one after all, and that there's a mythical perfect partner out there. Your task may well be not to find a new right person to love, but to reconnect with and love the right person you already found.

We all experience difficulties and challenges at some point in our lives which can leave us feeling anxious, stressed and worried. We all have past experiences that can still affect us in the here and now. Trying to make sense of these issues and experiences and trying to find our place in the world can often feel overwhelming and frightening, especially if we believe that we are the only ones feeling this way. Effective counselling can give you the time and space you need to help you to explore and begin to make sense of the issues affecting your life and allow you to focus on the changes you may want to make.

Using Ecological Transactional Analysis in a systemic integrative way, I offer face-to-face sessions at Oriel Chambers, online therapy, and outdoor sessions where nature becomes part of the healing, working with the whole person, mind, body and spirit.
You may be caught in cycles you don't fully understand, addiction pulling you back, ADHD making life feel chaotic, the weight of past abuse shaping who you think you are. Perhaps you're questioning your identity or your place in the world. Beneath the struggle, something in you knows there is more, a deeper self waiting to be uncovered. I'm Carmen, a therapist with two decades of experience working with adults ready to stop managing symptoms and understand their roots. People who sense that healing isn't just psychological, it's a journey of the soul. The hero's journey has already begun. You reaching here is the first step.

I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist providing in-person open-ended psychotherapy for adults in Liverpool.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy focuses on how we understand ourselves, our relationships and our past and present. A psychodynamic approach considers unconscious aspects - those things we are less aware of, but which can shape our lives - using interactions between patient and therapist to understand patterns in other relationships.

I am now offering in person sessions in my home and online.
My aim is to create a welcoming reliable space for you to examine things that you might not get many opportunities to talk about in depth which may be deeply affecting your life. Over time talking about these things can provide clarity, emotional release and long lasting insights. My core approach integrates Person-Centred, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Psychodynamic. In addition I am also trained in EFT or 'Tapping' which works similar to acupuncture and helps release stored emotions from the body in a gentle way. We will work together to work out which combination works best for you on your journey.

Sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what we are going through. We might feel bad or find something distressing but struggle to fully make sense of it. Together we can work through key areas you find challenging to reach a shared understanding of how these problems developed and why they persist despite your efforts to overcome them. Any form of therapy should ask what you want to achieve from your sessions. We can establish the main things you would like to see change in your life and focus our sessions on helping you get there.

Therapy is always a collaborative process. I work relationally and pluralistically, meaning we build a trusting relationship and work together to identify goals that feel meaningful and realistic. I support clients to explore their experiences safely, develop greater self-understanding, and build confidence in managing emotions and relationships. My role is to listen carefully, adapt to each person’s needs, and offer a steady, compassionate space where change can happen gradually. Progress often begins with feeling understood and continues through developing new insight, resilience, and self-acceptance.

Hi, I’m Angie and i'm glad you're here. I work with adults using Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, which means I pay attention to the patterns and dynamics that shape how we relate to ourselves and others. I offer a safe, respectful and collaborative space to explore whatever brings you to therapy. I understand how daunting it can feel to start therapy. It takes courage to look at the parts of ourselves that we keep hidden and may feel overwhelming or painful. But I also believe that going to the places we fear most can lead to the deepest growth and hold the biggest freedoms.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
