In addition to working with women who have experienced trauma, I work with women to provide relief from: feelings of sadness and hopelessness; overwhelming feelings of anger and aggression; misuse of alcohol, drugs or food; disordered eating; anxiety; stress; irritability; feeling stuck in challenging transitions/decisions; suicidal thinking.
Hello! I specialise in working with women who have depression, anxiety, stress, anger issues, addictions, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or who wish to explore and deal with trauma or abuse from their past and the impact it is having on their lives today. I have expertise in and I am certified in the clinical treatment of clients who present with complex psychological trauma. I believe the key to healing is in supporting you to transform how your mind, body and soul remembers what has happened to you. This involves bringing to consciousness your patterns and supporting you to heal, change and grow.

I have many years of experience working with female , male and transgender clients, my role is to help process your life experiences differently.
I believe each of us have the capacity to grow to reach our true potential. What can influence or inhibit our positive growth? Our life experiences are affected by childhood events, our relationships with parents. siblings, other family members, friendships, work etc, Our soil can be contaminated by others in our lives when we experience childhood trauma, grief, loss, shame and witnessing violence. being in abusive relationships, life and death situations. These experiences influence us as we grow up, our emotions, our beliefs, our thoughts and our behaviours. This can make us feel depressed, anxious, derailed and scared.

Hello, I'm Sammy, are you browsing this website because you feel in need of some support? Do you feel overwhelmed by emotions like frustration, anger, loneliness, anxiety, sadness, feel ‘stuck’, or perhaps you don’t know what is wrong but that something needs to change? In times such as these counselling can help. Counselling is, I believe, essentially a conversation between two people where you feel truly listened to, understood and without worry of interruption, judgement or criticism. A conversation which, at times, can be difficult but can lead to a deeper understanding of yourself and your situation.

I believe the relationship between the client and counsellor is hugely important. I am a warm and approachable person, focused on putting you at ease. At times in life, it can feel that people don't understand us, like we are being judged for the way we feel. It can be helpful to communicate these thoughts and emotions to gain a clarity and understanding to help you find a more fulfilling way of living. From personal experience, I understand that counselling can help make profound changes in their lives and relationships. These changes happen through a greater understanding and acceptance of ourselves.

I believe people have the potential to self-heal and grow, to develop and change when the right support and environment is offered to them. This enables people to trust their feelings and be less reliant on the judgement of others.

People come to therapy for many different reasons and you don’t have to be in a crisis. Therapy can involve talking about emotions, difficult events and/or relationships, it can also be about behaviour change or dealing with negative thoughts. When describing the way I work, I often say, it is like two people going for a walk, along the walk, you may notice things and I, may notice things and together we bring these observations into awareness, to explore and process them. Yes counselling can be challenging, only with that challenge, from my experience it can also bring great rewards.

Has the time come for you to consider change? Are you ready to take that step? Perhaps you've been affected by a loss, or lifestyle changes which are hard to accept. Sadness or feelings of isolation may be overwhelming right now. Has the pandemic left you feeling out of sorts or a little at sixes and sevens?

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
