I've also worked with people with a cancer diagnosis and family members, exploring the impact of this.
Unheard, misunderstood, confused, unsure, lost, desperate, feeling stuck, wanting to feel 'normal'. Any of these reasons and more can lead us to seek Counselling. I have been a therapist for 10 years, and practice in a Person-Centred way. What this means is, I truly believe when someone comes to see me they want to be listened to, not told it will be OK, or try this and do that. You have probably tried those things and still feel the same. What's needed is someone with the skill to help you navigate your feelings on a deeper level, to give you greater understanding of how you have come to feel the way you do.

Are you facing life without a loved one? Hiding your grief so others don’t feel uncomfortable, trying as best as you can to carry on as normal, but knowing nothing in your world will ever be normal again. Desperate for someone to see your grief, your heartbreak, your anger, your fear, your guilt but also scared that they will. You expected to feel sad, lonely, devastated, but you hadn’t anticipated other unforeseen issues to hit you: a loss of identity/role, loss of confidence in yourself, loss of your goals, dreams or future plans, changes to relationships, friendships or family issues.

It's hard to 'tick box' problems. Problems often do not fit into easy categories as each person has their own individual history and way of being, and so difficulties emerge in a unique way to the individual. For example, depression or anxiety might be completely normal reactions to a difficult situation, but it might seem that people are saying "oh, you've got depression" as if it is a cold and it's your fault. Anxious about contacting me? I would encourage you not to be too anxious about making contact regarding counselling or psychotherapy. Feeling anxious is a normal aspect of therapy, especially at first. I was anxious too.

I am a very experienced and professional therapist with over twelve thousand client contact hours behind me in individual, couples and group work. I feel my experience coupled with my life experiences makes me the person and the therapist I am today. My training in the person-centred approach (three years) and in Transactional Analysis (seven years) together with continuing professional and personal development and supervision give me a strong theoretical and experiential focus to bring to my client work. I work very much in a relational way (research indicates that the therapeutic relationship is key to positive therapy outcomes)

Do you experience feelings of emptiness, struggle in relationships, or find yourself always doing things for other people who never return the favour? Do you feel like you have never fit in, never belonged, or that you have to be someone else when you are around other people? Has something changed in your life and now you're finding it hard to adjust? Do you struggle to understand why you do some of the things you do?

I aim to offer a professional yet down to earth relationship in which you can explore your personal difficulties whatever they may be. Sessions are offered weekly or fortnightly, usually in an open ended way until you're feeling more like yourself again. Some people come for a few sessions, some for a few months and others decide to come longer term. Many people are now starting to use therapy over time and re-access support at times when it is needed most with someone who they trust to know them and their life well. I take a firm stance on challenging stigma surrounding mental health.

I offer professional, counselling experience in which you are able to explore your issues in a safe warm environment. Hourly sessions are offered from 4pm - 8pm Monday - Friday and Saturday mornings. I personally believe many people will benefit from counselling by helping individuals to understand their difficult experiences, along side the feelings and emotions attached to it. This process can be empowering, by enabling the client to work towards changing their lives to become more fulfilled. It takes great courage and strength to accept help with mental and emotional well-being, to work collaboratively.
