loss
, and clients experiencing stress, anxiety and depression.
Hi, I'm Becky, I am an integrative counsellor which means that I incorporate a range of models and approaches into my work with clients, depending on their current needs. Whilst I incorporate elements of psychodynamic counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as appropriate, my main approach is person centred. Most people find themselves in dark or confusing places at times throughout their lives, questioning who they are, wrestling with difficult questions, trauma, illness, addiction or
bereavement
. Sometimes people don't have anyone to share these challenges with or can't share them with those close to them. Despite proverbs about sharing problems, as a society we don't really encourage people to open up. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to do this. I hope to offer a space in which you can feel safe and respected while you explore these challenges and move towards improved mental well being.

Whether it be loneliness,
bereavement
,
death
of beloved pets, career changes, being bullied at work, or relationship conflict and difficulties, past or present, people find courage and way to live their best life best life if they are allowed to express what is truly going on for them.
There are times when for everyone life can become overwhelming. You may feel depressed, stressed or anxious, unable to sleep, or have a sense of being stuck or lost, a feeling that life isn’t working out how you wanted it to, but you don’t know what to do about it. There may be particular current events which are troubling such as being being bullied at work or in an abusive relationship. You may have had a childhood in which you suffered abuse, or a childhood that was unremarkable in that there was no obvious abuse, but it left a lasting sense that something was wrong. Whatever challenges you are facing, I can help and support.

Are your feelings muted? Or perhaps too loud? Do you wish to feel heard and understood? Have life events impacted you and your internal world? Are you struggling to make sense of it all? Is there a sense of losing who you once were? These are some of the reasons why people reach out for counselling. Transition, disasters,
loss
, excessive stress and relationship problems affect us all. At times we can manage what is placed in front of us. Other times, we need some support to navigate difficult times. Cultural stigma can prevent certain groups asking for help e.g. men; Blue light workers; military. Don't hold back. You matter.

We all experience difficulties and challenges at some point in our lives which can leave us feeling anxious, stressed and worried. We all have past experiences that can still affect us in the here and now. Trying to make sense of these issues and experiences and trying to find our place in the world can often feel overwhelming and frightening, especially if we believe that we are the only ones feeling this way. Effective counselling can give you the time and space you need to help you to explore and begin to make sense of the issues affecting your life and allow you to focus on the changes you may want to make.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
