Sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what we are going through. We might feel bad or find something distressing but struggle to fully make sense of it. Together we can work through key areas you find challenging to reach a shared understanding of how these problems developed and why they persist despite your efforts to overcome them. Any form of therapy should ask what you want to achieve from your sessions. We can establish the main things you would like to see change in your life and focus our sessions on helping you get there.

I am a qualified, HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with almost a decade's worth of experience of supporting people with a broad range of mental health issues. I've found that often, people feel stuck and confused, with questions of "why?" and "how?" when their mental health troubles them. Whether it be work or relationship stress; family issues; anxieties about health or socialising; trauma or depression, I’ve found people tend to get a better understanding of what’s bothering them when they figure it out with another person. Psychology calls this “formulation” and it gives us both a clearer path towards resolving the problem.

I am passionate about trauma informed practice: making every effort to understand the impact of people’s lived experiences on their daily lives. My approach is based on psychological formulation, to make sense of what a person is experiencing, and then using a range of integrated approaches to help people to make changes. I care about empowering individuals to live the lives they want to live, and take a very human and empathic approach to working with people's distress.

Hiya, I’m Lennie. I work with teenagers, young adults, and the grown-ups they’ve become. The ones who never quite fit the mould and are tired of pretending they do. I help teens carve out their identity in a world full of labels while supporting the parents and professionals navigating the chaos with them. Life with the people you care about should be something you enjoy, not just survive. Let’s face it, keeping your head down and pretending everything’s fine won’t get you anywhere. Together, we’ll tackle what you’ve been avoiding, rewrite the rules to suit you, rebuild your confidence, and create a life that finally fits.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
