What brings you to this search today? A current issue? At the surface maybe yes, but at a deeper level, maybe there's more. What might you be really seeking? Often life seems to keep throwing us challenges, situations that we don't want or like. Situations that are painful and even shameful. We might look at this, 'zoomed in' and try to manage or firefight, which can work in the short term. But there is another way if we zoom out a little and hold both views. What is the lesson I need to learn from this situation? What work might I need to do on myself to finally move forward? What gift might this painful situation have to offer?

I use psychodynamic, Gestalt, and CBT approaches to support clients with relationship issues, narcissistic abuse, trauma (intergenerational, religious), neurodiversity, discrimination, family conflict, and more.
Clients can explore unconscious patterns and relational dynamics ( psychodynamic), increase self-awareness and emotional expression (Gestalt), and develop practical coping strategies and thought-behavior changes (CBT), supporting healing, growth, and healthier relationships.

Counselling is an opportunity to talk over any troubling issues in a private and relaxed setting with someone who plays no other role in your life. It allows the counsellor and client to develop a non-judgemental, accepting relationship, where the client feels they are safe and able to express themselves freely. I am an experienced and integrative counsellor. I draw on various therapeutic theories and use them to best suit the unique needs of individuals. I am a registered member of the BACP and adhere to its ethical framework. Currently, I work for a charity offering support to young people and adults who are impacted by cancer.

I take an integrative, relational approach, drawing on CBT, person-centred, psychodynamic, and solution-focused therapy.
People come to me when they’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or caught in patterns they can’t seem to change. This may show up as stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, overthinking, or coping strategies such as alcohol, substance use, or compulsive behaviours. I also work with ADHD, including emotional overwhelm, rejection sensitivity, impulsivity, and self-esteem challenges. Together, we explore what’s happening beneath the surface, including stress and past experiences, and begin to make sense of these patterns in a safe, supportive space where change can feel possible.

Life's struggles can often bring difficult and painful emotions to the surface, and if there has been difficulty in our childhood (such as trauma or divergence) we may find that we do not have the skills to deal with, process, or even understand these big feelings. How we cope with our feelings can have a huge impact on how we show up and respond to different situations, relationships and work, having a further impact on our relationship to ourselves and our mental wellbeing. As a humanistic integrative therapist, I believe that a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship is essential for effective therapy.

Although my understanding of the psychology of human behavior is primarily rooted in a psychodynamic perspective, I often draw on the principals and techniques of various therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, BWRT and Motivational Interviewing so as to best cater to the unique needs and preferences of my individual clients.
If you’ve been wondering whether ADHD might be part of your life, you’re not alone & we’re here to help you explore it. At the UK Practice, our neuroaffirmative approach to ADHD assessment & diagnosis means that we take time to understand how ADHD shows up in your life, whether it’s affecting your work, relationships, or personal sense of self. Once diagnosed, our comprehensive reports and feedback can guide post-diagnostic services, including gaining access to medical services. You’re not just left with a label but equipped with practical strategies and coping tools that empower you to thrive.

Hello! Welcome, and well done for getting here. Taking the first step to getting help is often the hardest one. People seek therapy for a variety of reasons, whether they are feeling stuck and overwhelmed, in a 'funk' that they can't seem to snap out of, or for troubling emotions that are difficult to shake. You might have a clear goal of what you want to work through, such as past events or difficult challenges life has thrown, or you might not. That's ok - my role is to work with you to figure it all out

The treatment is tailored to your needs and can include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic, and others depending on how best to help you.
Hi, I am Sam. I am a counsellor, a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, ex-educator, and good all round human. There has been a lot of life before counselling and lived experience of mental health, both my own and family members. I understand only too well the ripple effect that mental health has on relationships. There is a way forward, to heal and repair. Having someone that isn't emotionally involved in your daily affairs, that you feel you can trust and is really hearing you, can be the first step to a healthy and long recovery. Welcome, I look forward to meeting you.

My training spans multiple evidence-based modalities, including cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, humanistic, and solution-focused therapies.
As a pluralistic therapist, no single therapeutic approach holds all the answers. My practice is built on the fundamental understanding that each person's journey is unique, requiring a tailored approach that draws from diverse therapeutic traditions and techniques. I work collaboratively with you to find the methods that resonate most deeply with your experiences, values, and goals. Rather than fitting clients into predetermined models, I adapt my approach to honour your individual story and needs.

You may be feeling overwhelmed by something you’ve been through — perhaps a loss, a traumatic birth, time in neonatal care, or another life event that has shaken your sense of safety or trust. You might notice anxiety, low mood, intrusive memories, or a feeling that you’re no longer the same person you were before. Many people I work with want to understand their reactions, feel less on edge, and find a way to live alongside what’s happened without it continuing to dominate their lives.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
