I work very well with anxiety, self-esteem issues, grief, relationship difficulties and low mood, autism, ADHD and HSP.
I work with adults and children and young people. I have a special interest and experience working with neuro-divergence. It may be that you have recently started to understand what makes you who you are, or it may be that you have known for a long time. We can all benefit from a compassionate space to explore our inner experience with another. With children and young people, I offer creative therapies and am very happy to be flexible in approach.

I work with adults and young people (16+) whose sense of self, emotional balance, or relationships have been shaped by difficult or traumatic relational experiences. This may include the effects of emotionally harmful relationships, including those involving narcissistic patterns. Many clients come seeking understanding, stability, and a way to move forward. Often, confusion about what happened, unhelpful beliefs, and unprocessed memories stand in the way of clarity, peace, and self-compassion. I support clients in understanding these obstacles so that greater clarity and lightness can emerge.

I have over twenty years experience in NHS and private practice, and can offer evidence-based support for common psychological challenges like anxiety, depression, and trauma-related symptoms and provide a structured, collaborative environment where you can gain logical and effective tools to manage emotions, rationalise negative thoughts, and break unhelpful behavioral cycles.
CBT provides a structured, evidence-based approach to breaking the cycles of negative thinking and behaviour that keep you feeling stuck. EMDR also provides a powerful, evidence-based way to process traumatic memories so they no longer trigger intense emotional and physical distress. Most importantly, I can tailor my practice to best suit your needs.

Therapy is for anyone going through difficult times, whether this is due to problems in relationships, stresses at work, death of someone close to you, or struggles with health or perhaps having feelings of sadness and anxiety and not really knowing why this might be.
In therapy I offer you a safe and compassionate space to talk about your difficulties. Together we can identify the issues that have become problematic for you and think about how they are impacting upon your life and well-being. We can consider how you currently cope, working through what is and what might not be so helpful.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
