Life can involve upsetting, stressful, or traumatic events that can impact us in so many ways. You may have anxiety and depression, struggle with low self esteem or have suicidal/intrusive thoughts. You may have problems controlling anger, or struggle with neurodiversity in a neurotypical world. Maybe your thoughts or feelings are impacting relationships around you, or vice versa. Whatever the circumstance, I can help you understand yourself and others in a safe and non-judgmental space, for new or long term troubles. I also offer coping techniques to reduce intensity/frequency of negative thoughts, images, and physical sensations

My approach is grounded in postgraduate study, personal and professional interest, and ongoing research in male psychology, including the biological, psychological, and social influences that shape masculinity and men’s mental health. My specialist training has deepened my understanding of male development, behaviour, coping and help-seeking, and how these can influence a man’s experience of therapy. All of my specialist training has been endorsed by the British Psychological Society. I offer men a compassionate, confidential and non-judgemental space where they can speak openly, feel understood and work towards meaningful change.

I work with individuals from age 14 and couples facing depression, anxiety, low confidence, or long‑term stress. My integrative approach blends CBT with person‑centred and systemic therapy. I support people living with depression, anxiety disorders, post‑traumatic stress, social anxiety, and health anxiety. I see you as a human being shaped by your early experiences, not a diagnosis. I listen to your words and the quiet beneath them, following subtle threads toward therapeutic healing and the parts of you waiting to be seen — the ones that quietly shape your life and are ready to emerge.

Your pronouns will be adhered to, you are accepted just as you are whatever that might be, I proudly welcome you into a queer and trans friendly space, you are not alone
Is something in your life feeling stuck or anxiety ridden? Together we can look at what the stuckness is and untangle it. I facilitate support for you to talk about what's bothering you one step at a time. I offer a warm, accepting space where you can be yourself and explore what is going on for you at your own pace. My approach is relational, showing my humanness and not hiding behind a facade of theory. I listen not only to what is said, but also to the emotions and meaning behind it. I may gently reflect what I notice or ask questions to help you explore things differently, a bit like holding up a mirror to you.

Are you feeling trapped in patterns of behaviour that made sense in the past but hold you back now? Perhaps you're constantly reliving traumatic experiences in your mind or body, or feeling shame, self-criticism, anger or anxiety that you can't seem to change. Together we'll notice the feelings, beliefs, sensations and memories that show up for you in each moment, and find ways you can respond to these feelings that leave you feeling calm, self-compassionate and more resolved. If talking hasn't changed the difficulties you're experiencing, or your body feels stuck in past experiences, this way of working might be a good fit for you.

Transgender Counsellors
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognise a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognise a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
