You might be the person everyone relies on, the one who gets on with things, while privately wondering how much longer you can keep doing that.
Maybe something has happened that has changed life as you knew it.
Maybe there isn't one particular thing you can point to, but you feel anxious, overwhelmed, low, or simply tired of holding it all together.
You might know exactly what you're struggling with, or you might just know that something doesn't feel right.
Whatever has brought you here, you don't need to know exactly what you need from counselling before we begin.

Hello, welcome to Therapy NorthWest. We support the wellbeing of adults & young people in clinics in the northwest & online. Zandra has many years experience working with individuals, couples, families and systems to help foster greater well-being.

Hi, I'm Paul Robinson, a Psychotherapist based in Preston, Lancashire.
If you are looking for a therapist who will just listen and nod, I may not be the right fit. I offer an actively engaged, direct, and robust approach, designed for clients who are ready to move past simply understanding their life and into real, practical change.
Therapy with me isn't about solving an abstract problem; it's about shifting patterns of relating. The way you connect with me in the room often mirrors the problems you face outside of it. I'm here to serve as a critical friend: warm and supportive, yet challenging when needed.

Whether it be the impact of past trauma from childhood/adulthood, bereavement, a chronic illness or a diagnosis of ASD/ADHD.
One thing is certain, we all live lives of colour, of ups and downs, experiencing both the dark and the light, stagnation and change, moving a few steps forward while at times feeling pulled back.
There are times we can pull through, and times we can't. We look inside ourselves for meaning, look to family or friends for support and answers.
But there are times when maybe that isn't quite enough. When our ways of coping fall short or fail us. Overwhelm or stuckness win over, anxiety stops us from doing the things we love or depression keeps us from making the connections to people and things that give us meaning and purpose.

Bereavement Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
