Sometimes children and young people can behave in ways that are difficult to understand. As their parents/carers, we can feel confused as to what might be happening for our child and how we can best help them. Your child might be behaving in ways that frighten you (e.g. violent outbursts or self-harming behaviours) or in other ways that concern you (e.g. increasingly anxious or withdrawn behaviour, refusing school etc.). You may have attended parenting courses, read books or spoken to friends/ family , but still feel at a loss as to what to do to help your child and how to feel connected to them again. Now is the time to seek help.

I help people connect with their own inner healer and the healing power of nature. My primary methods are ecotherapy and internal family systems. I see people with any type of emotional issues and through compassionate enquiry we build a shared understanding of why these symptoms are here and what they may be asking for to transform. I specialise in eating disorders and couple therapy, and see many people for psychedelic integration and spiritual enquiry.

I am a qualified psychotherapist. My practise offers a safe, supportive and confidential space for clients who work within the music and entertainment industries. Alongside my practise I work in the music industry so I can identify with problems that can arise from these areas which I've found to be both helpful and supportive to clients. Whilst all may appear great on the outside, I understand how in reality life can feel very lonely in such high pressurised situations for artists and industry professionals and family members of. We all find relationships and intimacy challenging - being close to people challenges our beliefs about ourselves and our trusted ways of relating do not always serve us well. When we get stuck over and over again in our intimate, family or work relationships, it is often due to our deeply buried or unconscious beliefs about ourselves. Many of my clients express what a relief it can be to share their problems and to realise that they are not weird or sick. We all struggle for a reason. In a group it can be especially helpful to realise that you are not alone - there are other people struggling with 'what it means to be human'.

I am particularly interested in the family background of my clients whether I am seeing them in a group or individually.
I am a psychotherapist and group analyst and have been a therapist for nearly 30 years in many different settings. In my approach, I am interested in making connections between experiences and difficulties in the present, with events and relationships from the past. In my experience, difficulties people experience as adults can often be part of a repeated pattern. I will be curious about relationships in your life but also the way you relate to yourself and to others. This will include how it is in the therapy relationship - whether individually or group.

Trained in the Internal Family Systems Therapy model of psychotherapy but I weave in years of medical practice and nature based shamanic approaches to help clients with a wide range of problems including chronic pain / illness, addiction, complex trauma, relationship difficulties, and spiritual emergency.
Are there parts of yourself you don't like anymore or that feel lost, wounded or ashamed? Are you suffering from disconnection, anxiety, low mood, addictive behaviours, interpersonal conflict or fatigue? My integrative therapeutic approach aims to re-connect you with your authentic Self and from this place heal and integrate into wholeness all 'parts' of yourself in a compassionate and non-judgemental way. As an Internal Family Systems therapist I work at the intersection of physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual sickness with a focus on somatic; transpersonal; and nature based / animistic approaches.

Having experienced at first hand the hugely positive impact counselling has had on my own life, I chose to train as a psychodynamic therapist to help others experience the same profound benefits. I now use an integrative approach, which has enriched my work with clients. Working with you, we will together examine and uncover often unconscious or repressed memories which in turn can drive unhelpful patterns of behaviour. We will explore the sources of your problems and aim to deal with the underlying issues, not just try to find a way to cope with them. Only by making peace with the past can you look forward to a happy future.

From time to time everyone experiences stress, sadness, anger, relational conflict and grief which we often suffer alone. Accepting help from others can be difficult but maybe you feel you’ve toughing it out on your own for too long. Whether you are struggling with an identifiable trauma or you’ve reached a point where recurring feelings are becoming unmanageable; a course of psychotherapeutic counselling may help you make sense of what is happening and enable you to gain and maintain some stability. Feelings of fear, anger, rejection and lack of confidence are difficult areas and discussing them with friends too raw and personal.

To begin counselling can be a life-changing decision. You may want to address thoughts and feelings or specific challenges that can be hard to speak to others about, or perhaps made a decision to address the impact of past trauma, loss or shame. By sharing your story and emotional journey within the therapeutic space, it can be heard in a new way, as though for the first time. In this way, different narratives can be explored, allowing you to take greater ownership of your life and your future.

As I work relationally and with unconscious processes I work well with any presenting issues that are related to attachment. These may be experienced as anxiety, depression, OCD, bereavement issues, substance use etc. You may have difficulties forming meaningful lasting relationships or have recognised a pattern in things going wrong in your life which make you unhappy. You may have current issues with your children that are echoing past hurts of your own that need attending to. I can help you to explore these issues within the safe and holding relationship that we can create together.

We will all encounter challenges during our lives. It may be difficult to ask for help but in reaching out we show strength - it takes courage to be vulnerable, open up and acknowledge we need support. I specialise in working with low self esteem, transforming deep-rooted issues, anxiety, depression and feelings of being stuck - whether it be in your relationship, in your job, or life in general. I have been working on an individual basis with clients both short and long term since 2015. There are many reasons you may be seeking counselling but I imagine you are wanting something to change. My aim is to facilitate a relationship that is tailored to you and created with you. This provides the conditions for you to freely and safely explore the challenges you may face, the trauma you may have experienced and who you are. Counselling is not only about what we think of ourselves and our life but more importantly, our felt sense of ourselves and our visceral experience of life. Giving space and awareness to our experience is what informs us of what is needed for healing, growth and change.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
