Hi all, I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist/Counsellor (meaning I work using Person Centred, Psychodynamic and/or CBT where required). Although, I believe that the skills and experience that I have learned are massively important, I also truly believe the 'therapeutic relationship' between me and you is just as important. People often seek counselling for any number of reasons, whether they are simply feeling low, want to offload or it may be something that is deeper. We will work together to see if it is something surface level or whether it is deeper and use the relevant therapy accordingly.

Arco Therapy is a local CBT service offering CBT to children, teenagers and young adults. More and more children and young adults are struggling with anxiety, stress and sadness and often professional therapy is needed to overcome these difficulties. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help young people and adults to overcome these problems and help them to enjoy their lives. CBT is the recommended treatment for anxiety and depression and provides the opportunity to explore unhelpful thoughts and behaviours and how they impact on how the person feels.

Do you need to make sense of what you are feeling right now? I do understand that coming to therapy can be a daunting prospect for anyone; it was for me when I had mine. It takes courage to take those first steps into therapy. This is why I offer you a safe, non-judgemental environment in which you can explore the issue that is concerning you. I offer you an empathic and listening ear, we may not be able to change the situation but by working together we will find a way forward that feels right for you. This is working in my modality of being a person-centred therapist.

We all experience challenges in life but sometimes these can become overwhelming and we feel unable to work through them alone. Often people don't feel able to, or don't want to discuss their concerns with friends or family as they are afraid to upset or burden them. It is my role to listen to you - I choose to do that.

Hello and a very warm welcome to you! People come to therapy for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you are experiencing difficulty with knowing what your feelings are. Or are struggling to express them. Alternately, you may be feeling very disconnected, unfulfilled or empty. Maybe you are confused about who you are, or what you want from life, and this prevents you from living in the moment. Are you trying to cope with a difficult life event, or is there just the sense that things are not right?

Life tends to give us challenges and difficulties, and sometimes we struggle to know what to do. We become stuck with a problem and become anxious and depressed about it. Counselling can help you to find a way forward: to rediscover your own resources, to develop your personal strength and resiliance, to develop trust and change unhappy relationship patterns, better your communication, develop trust, adapt to life changes, or improve your relationship.

Do you feel impacted by difficult life problems as a result of coping with traumatic experiences, managing depression/anxiety or dealing with difficult emotions? Many people find it easier to talk to someone who they see as being separate or an "outsider" to their life rather than friends or family. I can help you make sense of events (past and ongoing) in your life and resolve complicated feelings linked to these. However, you don't have to be at crisis point or feel unwell to have counselling! Therapy can be used to better understanding of yourself, working to change things you want, increasing your self-esteem and for self-care.

You are important. Are you feeling the pressures of life? Perhaps you need support and understanding with the anxieties life often brings. It can be incredibly tough; feeling as though you're on your own, or that those around you don't understand. Maybe you don't want to share your thoughts and feelings with those closest to you... During our session, you will find a relaxed, safe and confidential environment. We can explore together; where you are, discover the changes you would like to make and look at how you can put the foundations into place, to make those changes real. You may have already gone through some significant changes and could be feeling overwhelmed. I can help and encourage you to discover a better sense of well-being. You will be heard, without being judged.

How can I find a therapist in Leigh?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
