I provide a non-judgmental, safe, confidential, neuroaffirming, therapeutic space where we can better understand what’s going on for you. A great deal of my practice is focused on relationships (with ourselves and others- including our relationships with the things and people we turn to- substances, eating disorders, self- harm etc). I love working with people to help them better understand themselves and work with many of my clients to explore whether they may be Neurodivergent. I also offer clinical supervision to Integrative therapists.

I am a qualified Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor based in Oadby. At times, we can all feel overwhelmed and struggle with the challenges that life brings. Difficult experiences such as burnout, anxiety, fear, anger or deep emotional pain can lead to strong emotions such as anger, fear, anxiety, depression or emotional pain. Talking through these experiences in a supportive and confidential environment can help you gain a deeper understanding of your situation and begin to reduce the intensity of these feelings.

However you are feeling, it truly is ok! Trying to understand where it is you are right now is an important part of therapy, which will help you to overcome issues, such as anxiety, stress, lack of confidence & low self - esteem. You maybe feeling some or all of these and the thought of getting back on track feels like a challenge.

Finding the right therapist can feel important or maybe daunting, so I invite you to read through my profile. I am a Psychodynamic Therapist, which means I work with people to explore how past experiences and relationships may continue to shape the way they feel about themselves, others, and the world around them. Together, we can gently begin to understand patterns, emotions, and experiences that may be leaving you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, lost, or disconnected. I have experience supporting people living with both visible and hidden disabilities, as well as those experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, and loss.

I'm Jamie, an accredited Counsellor and Hypnotherapist. I understand not everyone has the tools to cope when life gets heavy — feeling anxious, burnt out, stuck in their heads, or struggling with confidence. Some are dealing with past experiences that still affect them, while others just want to feel more in control of their lives.

Healing is about time, place and person. When you are ready the right person will appear. Personal recommendations can be helpful, but in my experience you know the right person for you. I offer a 20 minute discovery call where you can see for yourself if we are the right fit. You and I will both know if this feels "right" and we can chat about the different ways in which I work to see what's best and where you would like to start. I work in an integrated way using talking therapies, bodywork, breathwork, energy healing, flower essences and sleep hygiene to support your journey to wellness. I cannot wait to connect with you.

If you are reading this I wonder if life feels difficult at the moment. Perhaps you are feeling anxious, depressed, living with the distress of uncertainty? Finding it difficult to let go of control, of perfectionism, feeling vulnerable or struggling with living in a ‘never enough’ world? Is this having a negative effect on your relationships, or are you struggling to understand traumatic events in your past, and you can no longer soldier on as before? However you may be feeling, it can feel really scary to come and talk to a counsellor. But I respect your courage to reach out, and I will listen to you with warmth and empathy.

During our lives we encounter loss including bereavement, separation, ill health and relationship or transitional difficulties. All of these external factors can and will affect how we relate to others, the world around us and most importantly ourselves. This may include withdrawing, substance use or abuse, unhealthy eating patterns and other self harmful behaviours. Our work together will be to focus on these changes and how you can develop and cultivate a positive relationship with yourself, and others. I have supported many people who experience overwhelming symptoms of trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety and depression.

We all have mental health just like physical health and sometimes we all need someone to talk to. Maybe you have situations arising in life at the moment which you are finding difficult to work through, perhaps you don't feel you can reach out to those around you or perhaps it is just too personal. Whatever the struggle may be, you are not alone.

What is the relationship between weight management and mental health?
Mental health can be significantly influenced by one's physical health, so overall improvements in one's quality of life as a result of improved physical functioning from weight loss can have an overall positive impact on an individual's mental health and allow them to engage more readily in everyday activities. In addition, many strategies used to manage weight, such as exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, are also associated with reducing the symptoms of common mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression. Individuals may also benefit from the improved self-esteem and self-efficacy that can come with successful weight management.

What is the psychological approach to losing weight?
While there are no specific therapy modalities specifically for weight loss, common psychological therapies can be highly effective in helping clients make lasting lifestyle changes. This may be called the "psychological approach" to weight loss because it does not rely on physical interventions, such as medication or weight loss surgery, to help clients lose weight. Weight loss counselling can be used in addition to or instead of such physical interventions. Some clients simply seek therapy to address the challenges that may accompany weight loss in general, including negative thoughts surrounding their body, disordered eating patterns, or difficulty completing daily tasks as a result of their weight challenges. In such cases, therapists will often utilise behavioural coaching or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques to help clients understand how their thoughts may be influencing their diet and physical activity patterns.

What type of therapy is commonly used in weight loss counselling?
Weight loss counseling often involves a combination of therapy and psychoeducation. Common techniques used by weight loss counselors include journalling, thought diaries, and other Cognitive Behavioural Therapy strategies that encourage clients to consider how their feelings about their weight loss impact their mental health. Weight loss counsellors may also teach clients mindfulness exercises, which can be used by clients during and after eating to be more aware of physical cues from their body surrounding eating. Some clients looking for weight loss therapy may also benefit from group therapy approaches, which utilise the power of social connection and accountability to help clients adhere to their weight loss plan.

Is therapy recommended for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery?
While therapy is not a requirement for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery, many individuals undergoing weight loss surgery may benefit from seeing a counsellor. Prior to surgery, counsellors can help clients decide whether surgical weight loss is a good fit for them and assist in surgery preparation. Post-surgery, counsellors can assist clients with the psychological component of maintaining their weight loss, as well as help clients navigate any postoperative pain. Throughout the surgical process, therapists can help clients process body-image challenges that may come with dramatic changes in weight, as well as manage symptoms of anxiety or depression that may accompany the major life changes bariatric surgery can bring.
