My counselling and voluntary sector experience has focused primarily on those going through life transitions: including cancer diagnosis, bereavement and emotional challenges before and after becoming a parent.
I offer short and long term counselling to adults - providing a non-judgemental and empathetic space to be truly heard. My specialisms are times of life transitions, particularly bereavement and new parenthood. I trained integratively but primarily work from a person-centred space. This means that I believe you are the expert in knowing what you need. However, I understand from personal experience that this internal voice can sometimes feel lost or silenced and having another person there to validate, listen and support your process can make a real difference.

Often children show through their behaviour that they are in need of extra support. Play and creative arts are a child’s natural way of expressing themselves and the child can make sense of what is going on in their lives through this. I support children who are dealing with a range of difficulties for example bereavement, anxiety, anger, bullying or parental separation- for example domestic abuse or divorce. At Apex House in Lutterworth, I create a warm and welcoming environment where children feel safe and are able to express how they are feeling, this may be consciously or unconsciously.

Most of us experience times in our lives when we feel low, worried or anxious. This might be because of specific difficulties such as anxiety, night terrors, panic attacks or depression, it could also be a general sense of feeling down and simply not understanding why. Talking to an experienced, accredited therapist offers you the opportunity to explore what concerns you may have in a confidential, non-judgemental setting with someone who explores what life events might have contributed to these feelings. I am now offering Saturday appointments from 09:00-13:00.

Hi, I'm Caitlyn. I know how overwhelming the search for a therapist can be - especially when life can already feel overwhelming. Many people turn to therapy because they are struggling with depression and anxiety, processing a loss, wanting to understand themselves better, longing to shift areas of stuckness, living with relational difficulties, or experiencing the aftermath of trauma. Therapy can be a place to engage with your story, be met in your pain, understand your patterns of relating, and feel seen.

Hi I'm Lauren and I'm a fully qualified Play Therapist. Play is a child's natural language: it speaks the worries and feelings too confusing for words. Where adults may speak about their worries and problems, children can express themselves through play long before they can articulate thoughts and feelings through the complexities of language. Often they do not know the words to describe their internal world but are ready to share it with opportunities through play and creative arts. Play builds trust, tells stories and takes us on brave adventures to wonderful places of safety, hope and happiness.

Therapy can be a great tool for restoring life balance and bringing about positive change. It can help you to understand more about yourself, your thoughts, and your emotions. Therapy could be beneficial if day to day life feels overwhelming or if you have difficult life experiences that you feel ready to explore. Perhaps you can be highly critical of yourself. You might regularly experience emotions that feel unmanageable and overpowering OR you may often find yourself entirely disconnected from how you’re feeling. You might want to learn more about yourself and your relationships with others.

However you may be feeling, it can feel really scary to come and talk to a counsellor. But I respect your courage to reach out, and I will listen to you with warmth and empathy.

Having the support of a family member or friend can be invaluable but sometimes we may limit what we say to them for fear of being judged or worrying about over-burdening them. Having someone impartial to talk to without these barriers can therefore be extremely helpful. My take on counselling is pretty straightforward. It’s about providing a safe space for you to talk about anything you feel is troubling you or holding you back from moving forward. A space in which you can explore thoughts and feelings, try and make sense of what’s going on and find some tools and answers to make some positive steps.

How we are with ourselves matters. At the core of my counselling work is you. Does trauma, grief or anxiety steer you away from where you are or what you are striving towards? I understand sharing these experiences can be overwhelming and uncomfortable. In a confidential and calm space, I will support you through your thoughts and emotions. At your pace, we will understand and reflect on past and present experiences, inviting compassionate inner dialogue, coping strategies, and movement away from shame and criticism. I will not judge you.

Parenting Counsellors
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
