Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve been holding things in for a long time. But you don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. Whatever you're carrying, you deserve support that sees the whole you, not just the symptoms. We’re here to walk alongside you with care, compassion and no judgment. If something in you is ready for change, we’re ready to meet you there. When you're ready, we’re here to listen and begin the work together.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, carrying the weight of trauma or deep emotional pain. You may want to understand yourself more deeply, break free from unhelpful cycles, or simply feel more present in your life. Are you some one who is ready to explore these experiences with openness and curiosity, even if that feels daunting? I work in the NHS in a CMHT and have the experience of using a variety of evidence-based models to support goals and create meaningful, lasting change. Together, we’ll work towards clarity, healing, and lasting change, in a space that’s safe, warm & non-judgemental.

Life is full of events, relationships, stresses and strains and all these impact on us in many different ways. It can affect all the important things to us such as school, work, relationships and our own perception of ourselves. This can be tiring and overwhelming. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way and I believe strongly that a person can benefit from having a space to discuss their feelings and develop ideas and strategies to improve their emotional wellbeing.

We live in anxiety provoking society and yet we want to thrive not just survive. How to manage stress and disappointment from our distressing environment is very critical on our daily basis. I believe we have all our innate power to grow and achieve things we want to through our self reflection.

Since my initial counselling training I have qualifications in systemic therapy, EMDR for trauma and a postgraduate certificate in Compassion Focused Therapy using evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, energy therapy and mindfulness.
During our lives we encounter loss including bereavement, separation, ill health and relationship or transitional difficulties. All of these external factors can and will affect how we relate to others, the world around us and most importantly ourselves. This may include withdrawing, substance use or abuse, unhealthy eating patterns and other self harmful behaviours. Our work together will be to focus on these changes and how you can develop and cultivate a positive relationship with yourself, and others. I have supported many people who experience overwhelming symptoms of trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety and depression.

A great deal of my practice is focused on supporting individuals going through challenging times in their lives due to anxiety, depression and those having difficulty in finding direction. I have particular experience supporting people suffering from chronic or terminal illness and with bereaved people, exploring the many complex feelings of grief which arise at such times. I am very comfortable and able to work with clients who have concerns about sexual identity and sexuality. I am also a qualified supervisor. Within this role, again, I base my practise on a developmental, relational model.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
