We are the sum total of all we have known, and understanding ourselves is as important as learning to fix us.
Are you struggling with difficult feelings such as fear, depression, anxiety, stress, grief, anger? Do you feel like you are going around in circles and can't see a light at the end of the tunnel? Taking that step to ask for help can be a frightening one, but it can also be them beginning of stepping out of that circle and finding a different perspective. My name is Nicky Daly and I work in a counselling/psychotherapy practice, just 3 minutes drive from J23 of the M1. As a practise we offer short and long term therapy for individuals, couples and children. We have over 30 years experience supporting people in distress.

How we are with ourselves matters. At the core of my counselling work is you. Does trauma, grief or doubt steer you away from where you are or what you are striving towards? I understand sharing these experiences can be overwhelming or uncomfortable. In a confidential and calm space, I will support you through your personal thought and emotional explorations. At your pace we will understand and reflect on past and present experiences, inviting compassionate inner dialogue and movement away from shame and criticism. I am committed to being respectful and sensitive towards the diversity of experience and beliefs. I will not judge you.

Life is full of events, relationships, stresses and strains and all these impact on us in many different ways. It can affect all the important things to us such as school, work, relationships and our own perception of ourselves. This can be tiring and overwhelming. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way and I believe strongly that a person can benefit from having a space to discuss their feelings and develop ideas and strategies to improve their emotional wellbeing.

Hi I'm Lauren and I'm a fully qualified Play Therapist. Play is a child's natural language: it speaks the worries and feelings too confusing for words. Where adults may speak about their worries and problems, children can express themselves through play long before they can articulate thoughts and feelings through the complexities of language. Often they do not know the words to describe their internal world but are ready to share it with opportunities through play and creative arts. Play builds trust, tells stories and takes us on brave adventures to wonderful places of safety, hope and happiness.

Life can have many aspects and there can be parts that we feel we would could benefit from support with. Whether there is a specific issue, things feel a little 'stuck', or parts of you aren't feeling as they used to, we can unpick what feels appropriate to at any given moment. Through therapy we can support the growth of self-awareness, explore what may be feeling unsaid and find your own path through whatever is present for in the current moment. It may be relational issues, loss, trauma, self-identity or simply a sense of not feeling exactly where you wish to be. We can take time to examine where your journey leads next.

Hi, I'm looking forward to hearing from you! I want to hear your concerns and support you to work towards the things that are most important in your life. I feel that therapy should happen in a friendly, nurturing space in which you feel safe and comfortable to bring anything you want to talk about and work on. I usually suggest exercises and other resources to complete in between sessions in order to keep the work progressing.

Education and Learning Disabilities Counsellors

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
