I am an Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist working with
couples
and individuals. I draw from a range of different ways of working that fits your needs in a particular session. You may have been thinking about approaching a counsellor or psychotherapist for some time. It can feel daunting approaching someone to talk to about the problems you are experiencing. At some point in our lives we all experience distressing events, difficult feelings or relationships and a little support at those times can go a long way. Whatever you’re experiencing, you don’t have to face it alone.

I am passionate in exploring the most important
relationship
which is with ourselves.
You have already taken the very first step to reach out and help yourself - that is brave. Is it because nothing is making sense anymore? Feelings of anxiety now have its strongholds and nothing feels certain either, only this deep sinking feeling of dread! I know it can feel daunting to reach out for help but by working together I can provide that space in a safe, and confidential environment to explore these issues. There maybe many reasons for accessing counselling and I am mindful that everyone has a story. I am also aware that there can be stigma attached in seeking emotional support.

I work with clients using
Relationship
, CBT, Solution Focused, Psychodynamic, Jungian and Spiritual modalities to help with a broad range of difficulties.
Most of us experience times in our lives when we feel low, worried or anxious. This might be because of specific difficulties such as anxiety, night terrors, panic attacks or depression, it could also be a general sense of feeling down and simply not understanding why. Talking to an experienced, accredited therapist offers you the opportunity to explore what concerns you may have in a confidential, non-judgemental setting with someone who explores what life events might have contributed to these feelings. I have 15 years clinical counselling experience working with adults and 12 years working with students (18+)

By exploring how you and I relate together in therapy, I aim to help you find different, more helpful ways of relating to others, facilitating an understanding of you, through a safe, trusting therapeutic
relationship
.
If you are reading this I wonder if life feels difficult at the moment. Perhaps you are feeling anxious, depressed, living with the distress of uncertainty? Finding it difficult to let go of control, of perfectionism, feeling vulnerable or struggling with living in a ‘never enough’ world? Is this having a negative effect on your relationships, or are you struggling to understand traumatic events in your past, and you can no longer soldier on as before? However you may be feeling, it can feel really scary to come and talk to a counsellor. But I respect your courage to reach out, and I will listen to you with warmth and empathy.

Lauren Atkinson Feel Free Play Therapy
It is often the strength of the therapeutic
relationship
which defines the progress a child makes on their journey in therapy.
Hi I'm Lauren and I'm a fully qualified Play Therapist. Play is a child's natural language: it speaks the worries and feelings too confusing for words. Where adults may speak about their worries and problems, children can express themselves through play long before they can articulate thoughts and feelings through the complexities of language. Often they do not know the words to describe their internal world but are ready to share it with opportunities through play and creative arts. Play builds trust, tells stories and takes us on brave adventures to wonderful places of safety, hope and happiness.

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist offering individual and
couples counselling
.
Everyone can struggle at times - with anxiety, low self-esteem, depression or just feeling low. Close relationships can go stale or get into difficulties. Bereavements can knock us sideways - sometimes 'hitting' suddenly even though it happened some years ago. Recent or past traumatic events can have a huge impact on our wellbeing. These are some of the emotional difficulties people struggle with. Close relationships have their ups and downs and emotions, even negative ones, are a normal part of our daily lives. It's when they drag us down, affect our quality of life, become overwhelming, that counselling can be a great help.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
