I am able to work with many different issues including those that are related to past trauma including adverse childhood experiences.
I have many years of experience working with a variety of client issues. I believe that we all have the potential to bring about positive change in our lives whatever our past experiences and therefore I always seek to provide hope. It is a particular delight to work with clients who reflect on the sessions between appointments however I am aware that for many individuals attending sessions can be well outside their comfort zone. I therefore adopt a gentle, encouraging approach allowing clients to work at their own pace.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I am curious about what has happened to you, and have an awareness of how that changes you; impacting on relationships and your sense of safety.
If you are reading this I wonder if life feels difficult at the moment. Perhaps you are feeling anxious, depressed, living with the distress of uncertainty? Finding it difficult to let go of control, of perfectionism, feeling vulnerable or struggling with living in a ‘never enough’ world? Is this having a negative effect on your relationships, or are you struggling to understand traumatic events in your past, and you can no longer soldier on as before? However you may be feeling, it can feel really scary to come and talk to a counsellor. But I respect your courage to reach out, and I will listen to you with warmth and empathy.

Are you experiencing difficulties in your relationships? Do you find yourself repeating patterns of behaviour? I work with Couples and Individuals to help with a better understanding of why you feel the way that you do. We all experience times of difficulty in our lives, when events or relationships feel overwhelming, or we can feel a loss of direction or purpose. Sometimes this can lead to anxiety and feeling low or depressed. Talking to a trained professional helps us make sense of those challenging times and offers a way through them, moving towards a better understanding of ourselves and our feelings.

As a counsellor I support you with a person-centred and trauma informed approach which provides a kind and gentle therapeutic relationship where you control how you share.
Are you finding it harder to cope than usual? Do you feel overwhelmed by the day-to-day stuff while everyone else is getting on with it? Are you worried about burdening your loved ones or maybe feel misunderstood or not heard? There are times when we can all feel that we aren't the person we used to be. When everyone around us seems to be coping and we question why we can’t. We may even stop doing the things we used to love or enjoy. This can lead to thoughts and feelings of isolation, loneliness, frustration, self-criticism and sadness. Together we can find the unique ways that support and nurture you now and in the future.

These are just some of the ways trauma can continue to affect wellbeing long after the abuse has ended.
Talking about your feelings can feel overwhelming or even frightening, and that’s completely understandable. When the time is right, opening up can gently reduce feelings of isolation and help ease guilt or shame. It can also support you to discover your own ways of coping with, managing, or moving beyond your pain.

Many of the men I work with have spent years pushing things down, coping alone, or feeling they should just “get on with it” — until life becomes too heavy to carry quietly. I work specifically with men and understand that starting therapy can feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or difficult to talk about. I offer a supportive, non-judgemental space where you can speak openly and be properly heard. Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 25 years working in the construction industry, with some of that time spent running my own business. I understand the pressures many men carry — the expectation to cope and keep going.

Taking the influences of relational, cognitive, trauma focussed and mindfulness based ways of working to creatively work towards your goals for the work.
Working on-line primarily, with some limited face to face availability currently, I provide a warm, accepting environment. An authentic, confidential and secure atmosphere for therapy allows the opportunity to explore, understand and work towards your therapeutic goals, with the passion and humour I bring. Dealing with the "difficult stuff" is something we are all capable of avoiding. It needs to feel safe enough to talk about what can feel most vulnerable and hardest to put into words. My role is to create the atmosphere where there's trust in; not being judged, found too much or not enough, being heard and valued.

My work is trauma-informed and rooted in humanistic perspective.
You may be looking for therapy because something feels difficult—perhaps anxiety, overwhelm, low mood, or a sense of feeling stuck or not quite yourself. It may be something else entirely. You might not have a clear way of describing it, and that’s OK. I offer a safe space where we can explore what’s going on for you in a way that feels manageable. I will listen carefully to your story and work alongside you with warmth, curiosity, and respect. You may be longing not to feel alone in what you are experiencing, or you may be well used to dealing with things on your own, so seeking support may feel unnatural. I’m here to help.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
