Transgender Counselling in Leeds
As a transgender woman with Autism and ADHD, when I was searching for a therapist I found it exceptionally difficult to find someone who understood the intersections of my identity.
My name is Jocelyn, I am a trans, AuDHD Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist, and a GSRD specialist. I frequently work with gender, non-monogamy, kink and neurodivergence within my therapeutic practice. I enable individual clients and intimate partners to create relationships with themselves, each other and with sex that they want, in a way that aligns with their identity.
I also work with clients who are gender, sexuality, and relationally diverse (GSRD) and want to work with a therapist who is affirming of their identities.
I hold both early morning time slots and evening slots.

Are you navigating a period where life no longer feels familiar, after loss, separation, relocation, illness, or a major life transition? Perhaps you’ve been holding everything together for a long time, yet quietly feel unmoored, uncertain, or unlike yourself.
You don’t have to face this period of change alone.
I work with adults facing significant change who want a calm, thoughtful space to make sense of what has shifted. Many of the people I support are capable, reflective individuals who find themselves at an unexpected crossroads — grieving not only what has been lost, but questioning who they are now and how to move forward.

Accessing counselling and therapy can feel stressful, confusing, or complicated. I'm here to make it easy for you. Counselling and therapy can take a lot of different forms, but the kind that I offer involves talking together about your life, your concerns, and your hopes, to find some clarity. I also sometimes use creative approaches, like drawing, to give you another way to express yourself.

I’m a qualified specialised Cognitive Behavioural BABCP Accredited Psychotherapist , interested in helping people improve their self esteem.
I believe in flexible labels - I think having a diagnosis such as “generalised anxiety/ OCD” etc. can be helpful for determining a treatment plan, however, I don’t think they have to define you and can change over time.

I am trained in a number of approaches but first and foremost I begin with a person centred approach. This means I will listen to you and together we can build a way of working that suits you best - I am here to hear how things are from your point of view. Counselling offers an opportunity to explore what matters at the heart of your life with an experienced professional in a quiet, confidential setting. In a first appointment we can explore together what you're looking for from therapy. We can meet weekly or fortnightly to explore a focused goal or we can just make space to gently explore how you're feeling and see what comes up!

I'm Andy and as a qualified person-centred counsellor, I strongly believe we all have the ability to navigate life's challenges by drawing on our own experience and capabilities. My role is to invite clients to explore whatever they choose in order to gain a deeper understanding of how it's impacting them, enabling them to create positive change. I do this through actively listening and offering useful reflections of themes I may notice, including any changes over time. I ask clients questions that encourage them to think about their experiences in new ways and never judge or lead anyone into talking about something uncomfortable.

Transgender Counsellors
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognise a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognise a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
