Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counselling in Leeds
I am passionate about helping people struggling with all forms of anxiety, including OCD, PTSD, social anxiety, phobias, panic attacks.
You may be successful but your worries and tendency to go over worst case scenarios in your head are so hard to control. Perhaps your anxiety is making it difficult for you to sleep well, relax, causing problems in your relationships, or bringing on panic attacks. You may have been coping by trying to block the worries out or avoid the situations that trigger your anxiety, but this is only making it harder for you to be present in your life and relationships the way you want to be. I'm here to help and let you know that you can learn to live life in the moment and learn to trust in your coping skills again.

I have a particular interest in nervous system regulation and OCD.
I often collaborate with people who define as highly sensitive, neurodivergent or alternative in some way. You may think, feel and experience the world differently and that can come with huge ups and downs.
Perhaps you look around and wonder how everyone else seems to be holding it together when you feel and think so deeply. Perhaps you get stuck in patterns of thinking and behaving that no longer help. I get it - life is often messy, unpredictable, and confusing, and at times it can feel like the cliff of overwhelm and burnout looms large.

I specialise in treatment for OCD.
Unhelpful thoughts and uncomfortable feelings are part of being human. Sometimes however, we can get stuck in a painful vicious cycle by reacting in unhelpful ways to them. This doesn’t mean we’re broken only stuck. If you’d like to learn new ways of responding to these thoughts and feelings then I can help. I have a lot of experience assessing and treating a wide range of problems using CBT. I use a range of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and mindfulness tools to enhance and compliment traditional CBT. I find this approach effective in helping people to recognise and break unhelpful patterns, overcome problems and prevent relapse.

TLDR I mostly work with people dealing with anxiety, depression, and/or OCD stuff/intrusive thoughts, to better understand what's happening and find ways to improve things.
I’ll encourage your interest in yourself and your life, including the overlooked or unwanted aspects, as it’s hard to change what we don’t pay attention to. I don’t know what anyone should do and I don’t push solutions. Mostly I listen, offering thoughts, questions and ideas, and hopefully furthering a shared understanding of whatever we're talking about.

This is CBT in a nutshell. It's about acknowledging the unhelpful ways you may think, behave and feel, which actually keep a problem going. Our aim is to find ways of breaking the downward spiral, or allowing you to escape the whirlpool and breathe again. CBT is an open, collaborative and practical process of discovering what works for you.

For OCD, I use ERP to help face fears safely and ACT to build tolerance to uncertainty—so intrusive thoughts lose their power. If you struggle with perfectionism or self-doubt, you’re not alone. These patterns often stem from deep-rooted experiences. Through inner child work, we’ll heal past wounds, rebuild confidence, and create a healthier version of you.

You’re holding it all together, but only just. Maybe you’ve had a panic attack in the toilet at work. Maybe you’ve asked ChatGPT to help untangle your brain.
You feel everything so deeply. The tiniest thing tips you over. Everyone’s got an opinion about what you should do, but you don’t even know who you are anymore. Maybe you've been carrying things alone for a while and masking how hard it’s been just to get through the day. You might feel like you're "too much" and still feel "not good enough". You're not broken. You’ve been thinking about therapy. Now you’re here, wondering if anyone will really get it.

People come to psychoanalytically informed therapy for many reasons—depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, stress, shame, or low self-esteem. What these struggles often have in common is that they have been present for some time and, despite our best efforts, do not improve when we try to manage them alone. This can leave us feeling stuck and isolated, with symptoms and frustrations that gradually intensify.
The aim of this therapy is not only to alleviate conscious symptoms, but also to develop a deeper understanding and awareness of the underlying emotional life that shapes our relationships and our feelings.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
